Gilbane Building Company Honored With Top Project Awards in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (PRWEB) June 06, 2018 -- Gilbane Building Company was presented with three prestigious awards for the recently completed Northwestern Mutual Tower and Commons project in downtown Milwaukee. The project was honored with the Project of the Year award at the Milwaukee Business Journal Real Estate Awards event, the Community Impact Award at the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Diversity in Business Awards and Top Project of 2017 by Daily Reporter.
Gilbane led the general contractor team in the construction of a 32-story, 550-foot-tall high-rise office building and two-block-long, four-story space known as the Commons in downtown Milwaukee. At 1.1 million SF of space, it will be the largest office space under one roof in Wisconsin. With a construction value of $461 million, the owner, program manager and general contractor team pursued significant contracting opportunities for Milwaukee’s small business enterprises and Milwaukee residents. In an unprecedented partnership with the Milwaukee Building Trades Council, a project labor agreement (PLA) was implemented with provisions for small business participation and prevailing wage and benefits for the local workforce.
“Gilbane is committed to building more than buildings every day in our local communities. To be honored with these prestigious awards is further representation of our team’s commitment to our core values and their mission to leave a lasting impression on local communities where we live and work.” – Adam Jelen, Gilbane Building Company Senior Vice President
Gilbane worked closely with the Wisconsin Regional Training Partnership (WRTPBIG STEP), Milwaukee’s Office of Small Business Development (OSBD), affinity groups including the ethnic chambers of commerce, and other key stakeholders who support and engage local and small construction firms and related services. Gilbane and its contracting partner dedicated full resources to support the owner’s commitment to the City of Milwaukee’s SBE requirements and resident preference program (RPP).
Local Small Business Enterprises were awarded $127.1 million in contracts or 31.4 percent of the total value of applicable construction and professional services contracts. Milwaukee residents eligible under the Residents Preference Program (RPP) performed 43.5 percent of the construction hours on the project.
