Golf Academy of America Alumni Win Warrior Open, Qualify for U.S. Open
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (PRWEB) June 12, 2018 -- Golf Academy of America proudly announced today that two of its graduates have recently achieved major victories in the golfing world. Andrew Bachelder, who graduated from Golf Academy of America in Dallas in April, won the 2018 Bush Institute Warrior Open, while Michael Block, a graduate of Golf Academy of America in San Diego, qualified for the U.S. Open, one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments.
At the Bush Institute Warrior Open, a tournament held for wounded veterans, Bachelder was the low gross champion, receiving the Champions Cup. His 2018 victory was not his first; Bachelder won the same tournament in 2015. He now heads to the American Century Championship, which will take place in Nevada in July of this year.
Meanwhile, Michael Block, head golf professional at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club, became one of only four qualifying players out of 81 competitors at the Portland sectional qualifier. He will now advance to play in the 118th U.S. Open Championship, which will be held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club from June 14-17 in Southampton, NY. Block was one of almost 9,000 eligible amateur golfers to compete for a spot in this famous championship. Only 156 – an elite 1.7 percent of golfers – made the cut.
“Andrew Bachelder and Michael Block are two incredible golfers, and we are proud to call them Golf Academy of America alumni,” said Golf Academy of America National Director of Operations Steve Newman. “We send our congratulations to Andrew on his Warrior Open victory and wish Michael lots of luck in the U.S. Open!”
