Seminole County Public Schools Partner With Portfolium on ePortfolios And Digital Badges
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (PRWEB) June 13, 2018 -- Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) has selected Portfolium to provide it’s ePortfolio platform to 67,000+ students in an effort to support secondary school student success, as well as a digital badging initiative directed at assessing faculty development among it’s 4,500+ educators.
Using Portfolium, SCPS will use the Student Success platform to support their competency-based learning program. This will enable students to showcase their curricular and co-curricular work with peers and educators through their secondary school lifecycle and beyond. These artifacts will function as lifelong portable evidence of competencies and achievements, which SCPS students can use to create flexible learning pathways that will guide them through their secondary and post-secondary learning lifecycle and into the career of their choice. SCPS will also be using Portfolium to support blended learning courses on career exploration, technology and communication skills to further strengthen student success.
Faculty will benefit from Portfolium’s student success platform, as SCPS will be launching a digital badging initiative aimed at promoting faculty development through yearly classroom assessment. The teachers’ work, as reflected by student achievement and skill growth over the course of the school year, will enable them to receive microcredentials for development through digital badges when evidence-based growth is measured at the close of the year.
“Once I started using the platform I realized just how intuitive and easy to use it is. The design is incredible. Everything about it is really neat! I particularly think it's much more valuable and easy to use than LinkedIn for myself and our students,” said Derek Jensen, Manager of Digital and Blended Learning at Seminole County Public Schools.
As a public school district, SCPS boasts 12 middle schools and 9 high schools, with each campus activating Portfolium for their own individual area of focus. Requiring minimal student and faculty training, the Seminole County Public Schools’ multi-department launch will benefit from Portfolium’s live-chat support and intuitive user experience, including full integration with the district’s current learning management system (LMS), Canvas.
