Digital Exercise Support For Diabetes: American Diabetes Association® and GlucoseZone™ Announce Partnership
ARLINGTON, Va. (PRWEB) June 20, 2018 -- Today, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) and Fitscript, LLC announced a partnership to improve the lives of people living with diabetes through Fitscript’s digital health program called GlucoseZone™.
Diabetes and prediabetes impact the lives and health of more than 114 million Americans. While exercise has long been recognized as a key component in the prevention and management of diabetes, few resources have been available to address the unique challenges of exercise with diabetes.
The GlucoseZone program is the first digital exercise solution that offers guidance, support and coaching based on the user’s individual requirements, including their real-time glucose levels and other bio-metric data captured from wearable devices such as glucose meters, insulin pumps and heart rate monitors. GlucoseZone enables people living with diabetes to incorporate exercise wherever they are and at whatever the stage of their disease, and represents an important step in making affordable, real-time exercise support accessible using digital technology.
GlucoseZone was developed by Founder and CEO Charlie O’Connell (a person living with type 1 diabetes) to help people with diabetes reach their goals.
“When I was diagnosed 22 years ago, there was very little guidance available to help people with diabetes safely perform exercise, let alone incorporate a therapeutic exercise program for the management of our disease,” said Charlie O’Connell. “In the last ten years, the underlying factors that result in good exercise outcomes have been discovered. By combining our understanding of the science of exercise with powerful digital tools, GlucoseZone has helped to bring the benefits of exercise to millions of people living with or at risk for developing diabetes.”
The ADA has been at the forefront of expanding awareness of the rapid advances in technology that are helping transform each of the three pillars of diabetes treatment: medication, nutrition and exercise.
“Regular exercise is an important component of a successful lifestyle management plan that can help improve blood glucose control for everyone with diabetes. The ADA is pleased to partner with GlucoseZone to help people with diabetes have success in meeting the recommended physical activity goals,” said the ADA’s Chief Scientific, Medical and Mission Officer William T. Cefalu, MD. “Digital programs such as GlucoseZone increase access to the information and support individuals with diabetes need to help achieve their diabetes care goals.”
About the ADA:
Nearly half of American adults have diabetes or prediabetes; more than 30 million adults and children have diabetes; and every 21 seconds, another individual is diagnosed with diabetes in the U.S. Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association (ADA) is the nation’s leading voluntary health organization whose mission is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The ADA drives discovery by funding research to treat, manage and prevent all types of diabetes, as well as to search for cures; raises voice to the urgency of the diabetes epidemic; and works to safeguard policies and programs that protect people with diabetes. In addition, the ADA supports people living with diabetes, those at risk of developing diabetes, and the health care professionals who serve them through information and programs that can improve health outcomes and quality of life.
