Galician Cinema & Food Festival Returns to New York, Biggest Cultural Galician Event in the United States
NEW YORK (PRWEB) June 27, 2018 -- The fourth edition of the most important and renowned international galician festival, Galician Cinema & Food Festival will launch this upcoming Thursday, June 28th in Manhattan, NYC.
Under the slogan “The Taste of The Way”, and in a clear attempt of reference to the famous “Camino de Santiago” this festival arrives with a successful background, repeating the formula of its past years, combining film, food, wine and beers.
On the film area the festival’s main attraction will be “Dhogs”, prime opera of Andrés Goteira, with 13 “Mestre Mateo Awards” – Galician Cinema Awards – nominations on 2018 and total success on the spanish industry. This galician movie will be played at Instituto Cervantes, located in midtown Manhattan, followed by presentations in Queens and New Jersey as well.
Andres Goteira will introduce his own work to the audience prior to every screening of the movie.
Gastronomy
Betting again for top New York based galician chefs, this fourth edition will have Tomiño’s chefs Fran Novas and Rogelio García. Both will be solely in charge of creating and executing the menu for this edition’s show cooking featuring PescadeRias products.
The show cooking will take place on June 28th, at Cosentino Manhattan’s modern installations. Most of the attendees will be specialized media and distributors. This 3D experience will count on the presence and sponsorship of Conselleria Do Mar, Estrella de Galicia, Aceites Abril and the Café Candelas’ earth-friendly coffee.
On June 29th, the gastronomical experience will be focused and centered on a delightful wine tasting with 5 galician D.O. for specialized media mainly, joining awarded sommelier Jose Gutierrez.
This show shares dates and interest with local “Summer Fancy Food” and will count on the presence of various importers such as HGA group.
Films
Starting Friday June 29th, the GC&FF will showcase the very best of galician films in Newark, New Jersey, known as the “Little Galicia” for its important galician community.
“Dhogs” will be screened at the Spanish Club on the 29th and at Orensano Center on June 30th. On July 1st, the venue will be allocated in Queens, New York, at Casa Galicia, the biggest galician center nationwide.
Awards
Willing to recognize the success stories of immigrants in the USA, Galician Cinema & Food Festival will launch “Galegos con Estrela” Awards. For this first instance, the awarded galician will be the artist Miguel Saco. This sculptor and eminent furniture restorer is highly well-known and recognized for his international career. Featured in numerous publications due to his excellence as a furniture conservator, he’s known for collecting unique pieces from artists like Frank Lloyd Wright or Mies Van de Rohe.
Closing Event
On Monday, July 2nd a Closing cocktail event will take place at the historical and beautiful midtown-based Instituto Cervantes. The event will start with the presentation of “Dhogs”, followed by a speech from Andres Goteira. Lastly, an exclusive menu made by Fran Novas an Rogelio Garcia will be offered to the 250 guests expected to attend, while enjoying the best of the galician cuisine, paired with its best wines.
The event will count on the presence of Estrella de Galicia Beer, 1906 Reserva cider, Maleoc, Altos de Toroña, Regina Viarium and Viña Costeira Wines, and the debut presence of Café de Candelas.
