Operation Homefront and Dollar Tree Inc. Partner for 10th Year to Prepare Military Children for School
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (PRWEB) July 05, 2018 -- Operation Homefront and Dollar Tree Inc. have joined forces for the 10th consecutive year to collect school supplies for military children through the national nonprofit’s Back-to-School Brigade®. Today through August 9, supplies purchased by Dollar Tree customers nationwide may be donated to Operation Homefront at collection boxes at more than 6,000 participating stores. Operation Homefront volunteers will collect the supplies and distribute them to military families at more than 40 Back-to-School Brigade® events and through local community partners across the nation this summer.
"Dollar Tree is proud to be a national sponsor of Operation Homefront," said Chelle Davis, Dollar Tree spokesperson. "We are honored to once again participate in the Back-to-School Brigade™ and we thank our Dollar Tree customers for their continued generosity and support."
In 2017, families spent $500 per student for school supplies on average, a significant increase from $488 per student in 2016. The Back-to-School Brigade®, which has distributed more than 300,000 backpacks since the program’s inception, helps to alleviate some of these financial costs for military families by providing backpacks with a variety of needed supplies, including pens, pencils, paper, scissors, and binders.
“We are thrilled to partner with Dollar Tree and their amazing customers for our 10th Back-to-School Brigade® campaign,” said Brig. Gen. (ret.) John I. Pray Jr., president and CEO of Operation Homefront. “Last year we distributed nearly 42,000 backpacks to military children to get them ready for the upcoming school year and we look forward to another opportunity to ease the financial burdens our military families face at this time of year. By working together, we are able to accomplish our mission and help military families thrive – not simply struggle to get by – in the communities they have worked so hard to protect.”
Dollar Tree is a longtime supporter of our nation’s military families. Since the partnership began in 2006, Dollar Tree and its generous customers have provided millions of dollars and in-kind support to recurring programs. Moreover, Dollar Tree has supported Operation Homefront’s Critical Financial Assistance program for military families in need.
