Implements 2018 Hurricane Season Protocol

June 1st marked the start of 2018's Atlantic Hurricane Season, Homeowners of America Insurance Company (HOAIC), is prepared to use best practices learned from Hurricane Harvey to further support customers in the coming months.

In preparation for Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall on August 25, 2017, Homeowners of America brought in hundreds of adjusters and claims specialists to assist with response efforts. In the field, catastrophe adjusters converged on the Texas coast and Houston area. CAT centers were established to help expedite the handling of claims.

“We wanted to take care of claims in a fast, fair and friendly manner, but we also care about more than just our own HOAIC customers.” Says Brent Parker, Vice President and Director of Claims. “We had adjusters working throughout the nights to rescue people from homes and rooftops with their fishing boats. And as soon as the water receded, they were out inspecting homes, trying to help people get back to normal and begin the repair process as soon as possible.”

Provider partnerships were in place to help with temporary accommodations, emergency repairs and any overflow of claims if needed. Internal phone lines were added to reduce call-wait times to less than 15 seconds following Hurricane Harvey. Policyholders could also report or check on the status of a claim electronically.

Willie Harrell, a customer directly impacted by Harvey stated; “In a time that my family were the most vulnerable because of the stress caused by Hurricane Harvey, Homeowners of America and all members of their staff were fair and a pleasant delight with my claim and did not add to our burden. I therefore have but one suggestion: Keep it up! Thank You.”

These same strategies will be followed should the company face another hurricane in 2018. Goals to continue exceeding industry standards on timing of claim resolution and customer support remain a top priority for HOAIC moving forward.
