Fordham University School of Professional and Continuing Studies Launches Program for Au Pairs
WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. (PRWEB) July 12, 2018 -- Westchester is the home of hundreds of au pairs from around the world. Internationally-born, these individuals are typically between 18 and 26 years of age and are authorized by the U.S. Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to care for American children in exchange for a small stipend and free room and board. As part of their J-1 visa, au pairs are required to complete the equivalent of six credit hours (72 hours of class time) at an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution.
Fordham University’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) recently launched a program for au pairs. The new suite of courses allows participants to earn up to 40 hours of class time at the institution’s Westchester Campus in West Harrison, N.Y. Classes are offered as one- or two-day weekend intensives or as evening classes. Additionally, PCS offers a deeply discounted rate to au pairs from recognized agencies.
“The post-secondary credit requirement can be problematic for many au pairs due to the cost of instruction,” said Anthony R. Davidson, Ph.D., MBA, dean of PCS. “We are pleased to expand our offerings to benefit these hardworking individuals so that they may continue to gain knowledge and expertise in a field which serves our County well. Our first class, Abnormal Psychology in Society, which was held on June 23 and 24, drew students from South America, Europe and Eurasia.”
Upcoming September classes, which feature topics like consumer behavior, social media and digital marketing, include:
• Introduction to Social Media Marketing – This course is designed to provide an introduction to the operational mechanics and key marketing and communication strategies associated with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest. In addition, participants will learn how to leverage social media to enhance their online reputation and expand their career opportunities.
• Purchasing Power: Understanding Consumer Behavior – Understand how consumers behave in the pre-purchase, during-purchase and post-purchase phases. In this interactive class, students will gain insights into the types of topics that companies explore and analyze when developing a marketing strategy and tactical marketing plans for target markets.
