The Society for Translational Oncology (STO) is currently accepting applications for the 2018 STO Fellows Forum (STOFF), to be held at the Lansdowne Hotel, Leesburg, Virginia, October 11-14, 2018.
DURHAM, N.C., July 18, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Society for Translational Oncology (STO) is currently accepting applications for the 2018 STO Fellows Forum (STOFF), to be held at the Lansdowne Hotel, Leesburg, Virginia, October 11-14, 2018. This intensive, three-day workshop provides 25 young oncologists with the opportunity to develop their skills in translational cancer research, explore the science of drug development in oncology, and network with peers and prominent faculty mentors. The deadline for applying is July 31, 2018.
Each year, STOFF brings together a faculty of prominent scientists, clinicians, ethicists, industry representatives, and biotech investors to act as mentors to oncology fellows and junior faculty with an interest in translational research. Fellows are drawn from leading medical, surgical, radiation, and pediatric oncology groups as well as surgical subspecialty fellowships from the United States and abroad. Since its founding in 1996 by Bruce Chabner, MD, STOFF has provided unique mentoring and networking opportunities to over 400 early-career oncologists.
STOFF is led by co-chairs Dr. Keith Flaherty (Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School), Dr. Stacey Berg (Baylor College of Medicine), and Dr. Ross Levine (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center). The interactive workshop-style STOFF experience will be enhanced in 2018 with dedicated office hours with these distinguished co-chairs, providing additional time for one-on-one mentoring.
STOFF has earned international acclaim for its focused, practical, and personal tutorials preparing oncologists to advance cancer drug development. Presentations cover topics ranging from drug target and biomarker validation, to design of translational clinical trials, to regulatory perspectives on oncology drug development. Participants are also tutored in guidelines for good basic research as well as the practices of successful grant-writing. Breakout sessions, Q&A periods, and a daily mentoring clinic provide ample opportunity for interaction between faculty and mentees.

Tuition expenses, meeting materials, housing, and meals will be covered for fellow-level participants. Junior faculty (within 5 years of training completion) are also eligible to apply, but will be responsible for their own travel and accommodations.
