Stories of Struggle, Strength, and Success Shape FBOL’s 2018 Student Scholars
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (PRWEB) July 25, 2018 -- 35 high school graduates of blended and online learning programs in 21 states and Puerto Rico have received post-secondary scholarships from the Foundation for Blended and Online Learning (FBOL). Each have earned between $5,000 and $10,000 in financial support toward their continued academic studies at a two-year, four-year, or vocational college.
Amy Valentine, FBOL's executive director, said, "Each of these students has demonstrated a strong commitment to their education and future. Behind the data contained in their transcripts, however, are incredible stories of past struggles and the strength to overcome learning obstacles. Conversations with scholarship recipients and their families always reinforce our commitment to support greater awareness of and access to the same school environments that helped shape their success. It is an inspiration and an honor to be a part of their journey."
Established in 2016, the foundation’s scholarship program has attracted applications from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and several military stations. Applicants and recipients alike represent the complete spectrum of American high schools -- traditional public, public charter, private, and parochial. Close to 100 awards have been presented to students currently attending schools ranging from specialized community college and vocational programs to state university systems and the Ivy League.
Linda Lopez, a founding member of FBOL's board of directors and former Arizona State Senator, said, “The foundation's annual scholarship program is not only a way to celebrate academic achievement in blended and online programs, but an opportunity to acknowledge why and how students choose new learning environments to address a number of unique education needs. Sharing their stories is critically important to the continued improvement and availability of innovative school models."
