NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- GIMI GEEK, the world's largest geek-themed fine art gallery, will have its digital grand opening on Wednesday, October 31st. It will feature over 150 pieces created by 50 artists from North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
The artists represented by GIMI GEEK include award winning professionals working in contemporary and traditional art forms with themes that include fantasy, comic, steampunk, and pop surrealism - styles usually ignored by traditional galleries - despite producing work for Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and other large industry names.
"As a surreal artist who works with whimsical themes, I would struggle finding a place in art galleries that would mostly show paintings of landscapes and portraits," says GIMI GEEK co-founder and CEO Faina Lorah. In 2016, that changed when she discovered a new market within anime and comic conventions. "I found that my art really resonated with fans at these events. That's what inspired me to create something that would celebrate the incredible art being made by this vibrant, enthusiastic community."
In addition to having unique content, GIMI GEEK also has a different approach to representation: artists are provided with career development workshops and resources. Lorah recruited her partner Simon Tam, founder of The Slants and veteran in the convention community who made appearances as a guest at hundreds of events, to help lead those efforts.
"I thought it was a brilliant idea," says Tam, "because many artists understand how to make beautiful works but don't know how to run a business. They need a dependable, trustworthy source who can help with social media and get information on the best places to showcase their art." When not on stage as a musician, Tam also teaches marketing and entrepreneurship as an adjunct professor at multiple colleges.
GIMI GEEK's initial artist roster includes works by Renee Lawter, Harry Conway, Autumn Rozario Hall, Cynthia Tedy, Nadya Morgunov, Vasilisa Romanenko, Paul Carrick, Aria Fawn, Allen Douglas, and many more. Each artist was handpicked and invited by Faina Lorah.
The curated pieces are organized into collections each week, with emphases ranging from subject to seasonal palettes. For its grand opening on Halloween, the first collection will be "Happy Haunting."
