Pfluger Architects Receives Safety Award for Southside High School
Thanks to extensive pre-planning, Southside High School, a $66.5M, 258,000SF project, was completed in 18 months with zero lost-time accidents and occupied during the last phase of construction.
HOUSTON, Nov. 06, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pfluger Architects has received an Excellence in Safety, Award of Merit from the Texas & Louisiana Engineering News-Record for Southside High School, a 258,000 SF Career and Technology campus built for the Lafayette Parish School System in Lafayette, Louisiana.
The project, with Pfluger as Architect, Abell + Crozier Architects as Lead Designer, and The Lemoine Company as General Contractor, was judged on factors that included the project's overall safety program, OSHA recordable incident rates, lost-time accident rates, and total man-hours-on-the-job.
Michelle Dudley is a Partner with Pfluger and served as Sr. Project Manager on the Project. "This award is a testament to the collaborative process, and working with a General Contractor that cares about their people and the client as much as we do," said Dudley.
Southside High School was the first new construction for the Lafayette Parish School System in nearly 50 years. The Parish wanted a design to promote engagement, collaboration, and inquiry. Driven by industries in the local economy, the school's programs focus on career training in Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources.
The design of the three-story building features an atrium that opens to the cafeteria, library, and Career & Technology education classes. A Makerspace is the heart of the school and provides a hands-on workshop for students to design, create and explore their ideas.
"The learning process has been transformed at Southside High School and the ongoing adaptations to the collaborative environment are to be credited to Pfluger's insight into the partnership between architectural design and education," said Catherine Cassidy, Principal at Southside High School.
