SheSpeaks, one of the largest online communities of female consumers and influencers, has released the results of its newest female-focused 2021 holiday shopping survey. "The data collected from our newest survey indicates that perhaps women do not determine their holiday spending based on their families' financial situation," said Aliza Freud, CEO, and Founder of SheSpeaks. "Although the outlook on women's finances is roughly the same this year vs. last year, almost double the number of respondents will spend more this holiday season.”
Women are Spending more for the Holidays
Women's current feelings toward their financial situations remained largely unchanged from 2020's data (50% comfortable with finances), with 49% reportedly feeling financially confident. However, attitudes have shifted in favor of spending more in 2021, as reported by 10% of respondents. The survey also presents an increased sense of positivity in women, with 41% selecting "grateful" and 40% selecting "hopeful" that could be impacting the increase in spending. Sales and promotions will be the number one factor in how women will spend this holiday season (56%). A surprising change from 2020's leading factor being finances (67%).
Holiday Shopping Starts Now
This year, holiday shopping starts earlier than ever before, with 56% of women beginning shopping prior to Thanksgiving. The new data presents a 17% increase from 2020's survey results (48%). Cyber Monday continues to gain momentum in popularity as 46% of women surveyed will be taking advantage of online sales.
Amazon Leads in Consumer Interest
According to the survey results, Amazon will be the most popular online retailer for holiday shopping, with 22% of women expecting to spend more on the platform than in 2020. Amazon will also be women's most trusted shopping resource this holiday season, with 47% of survey participants claiming they will rely heavily on the online retailer's product reviews. Outside of Amazon, Facebook is projected to be the leading social media platform for gift insights (25% of participants), followed by Instagram (21% of participants) and Pinterest (16% of participants).
