Proceeds Will Be Used to Extend Leadership in Solutions that Accelerate Software Developer Productivity

Gradle Inc. announced today that it closed a $27 million Series C led by Triangle Peak Partners. Participating investors include True Ventures, DCVC, Bain Capital Ventures, Harmony Partners, and StepStone Group. Elite development teams from companies like ASML, eBay, Fitbit, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Pinterest, Salesforce, Square and Twitter, use Gradle Enterprise to more rapidly deliver quality software at scale. Gradle is also the company behind the popular open-source Gradle Build Tool which is downloaded over 25 million times a month.

“Gradle is pioneering a new software development practice called Developer Productivity Engineering or DPE,” said Hans Dockter, Gradle co-founder and CEO. “And we are convinced that DPE will prove to be the most important movement in software development since the introduction of DevOps by addressing many of its inefficiencies and dark costs.”

According to the company, DPE takes an engineering approach, rather than a people management approach, to solving developer productivity challenges and improving the developer experience. Gradle Enterprise is positioned as a key enabling technology for DPE and the only end-to-end solution on the market.

Key components of the Gradle Enterprise solution for DPE include build and test acceleration technologies (for both local and CI builds) and analytics to proactively improve the reliability of the developer toolchain and make failure troubleshooting more efficient. The platform supports a growing number of build and test technologies including Gradle, Apache Maven, Android, JUnit and soon Bazel and popular test frameworks for Python and Javascript such as Pytest, Jasmine and Cypress. Gradle will use this additional funding to accelerate Gradle Enterprise support for all major language ecosystems used within the enterprise.

The company will also invest more heavily in extending their product functionality leadership, including the application of AI/ML technologies to Gradle Enterprise build and test acceleration and analytic capabilities. And, in response to accelerating demand for the DPE solution, the company plans to invest further in scaling sales and customer support internationally.

“Gradle is capitalizing on the next generation of software development which continuously improves upon the developer experience,” said Tyler Peterson, Partner, Triangle Peak. “With Gradle Enterprise, companies can not only deploy engineering resources more productively and accelerate software delivery time to market, but they gain a significant edge in the race to digital transformation.”
