KERPA is the Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association serving the Kootenay Region of British Columbia, Canada. This innovative program sends a volunteer Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Physician into the field to respond to some of the most critical 911 calls in the area, providing additional support to Emergency Services. After an extensive evaluation process, KERPA has selected the Handtevy Pediatric Resuscitation System to outfit their ERP1 Vehicle with lifesaving tools to treat critically ill and injured children.

Handtevy, the leader in pediatric emergency technology, has partnered with KERPA (Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association) program to provide their groundbreaking Handtevy Pediatric Resuscitation System to all Emergency Medical Services (EMS) physicians in the program.”

In pediatric emergency situations, every second counts, so after passing rigorous testing and evaluation, KERPA chose Handtevy’s flagship solution, Handtevy Mobile, as their go-to, frontline, lifesaving tool.

“The Kootenay Region is largely a rural and remote wilderness. We send a licensed physician who must deliver extensive lifesaving care in the field due to response and transportation times. Handtevy Mobile gives us the ability to access complex medication doses, in seconds, when it matters most.” – Dr. Nicholas Sparrow MBBS, BSC, CCFP-EM, an ED & EMS Physician, and the President of KERPA

Handtevy Mobile’s breakthrough technology allows EMS and other emergency healthcare professionals to obtain accurate medication dosing for pediatric emergencies rapidly, at the point of care. The medications and equipment listed in Handtevy Mobile are customized to KERPA’s unique formulary, a feature that will reduce errors and ultimately save children and adult lives across the region.

Handtevy Mobile will be deployed on phones and tablets throughout KERPA to ensure the highest level of pediatric emergency care at the highest levels of excellence in the field.

"We're proud to team up with KERPA and their vital mission to serve the residents of the Kootenay’s. KERPA physicians must take all the best tools with them to rugged environments and Handtevy puts a suite of lifesaving solutions in the palm of their hands." – Dr. Peter Antevy, M.D., Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Handtevy.

In order to get the most out of the state-of-the-art system and the latest in lifesaving techniques, the rollout will be paired with Handtevy’s nationally acclaimed instructor course that will allow KERPA to onboard new physicians quickly.

Included with Handtevy Mobile is “CPR Assist,” an app feature that leads high-performance EMS teams through the highly regimented CPR bundle. Using the auditory and visual cues provided by the app, clinicians accurately maintain compression and ventilation rates, defibrillate as needed, and administer accurate medications and equipment, all while documenting the event in real time. It’s a unique feature that brings calm to the chaos of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest for both children and adults.

Handtevy was founded by Dr. Peter Antevy, a nationally recognized expert in the field of pre-hospital pediatrics. His passion for solving this complex issue stemmed from a medication error he made early in his career that led him to drastically impact currently accepted practice. He is a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital and also serves as the EMS Medical Director for Davie Fire-Rescue, Coral Springs Fire Department, Southwest Ranches Fire Rescue and American Ambulance. Dr. Antevy is also the Associate Medical Director for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and serves as the President of the Greater Broward EMS Medical Directors’ Association, an organization whose providers serve the 1.5 million residents of Broward County, Florida. For his efforts, Dr. Antevy was awarded the prestigious Raymond H. Alexander EMS Medical Director of the Year Award in 2014 and in 2018 he was named the National EMS Medical Director of the Year by the NAEMT. He also was honored as one of the 2015 Top Ten Innovators in EMS by Journal of Emergency Medical Services (JEMS).
