Announcing a fresh perspective to the regulator of motor vehicle dealers in Ontario, Jason Mayhew, Founder of AutoAgents

OTTAWA, Ontario, June 23, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- OMVIC, Ontario's motor vehicle dealer regulator, announced last week at their 2022 Annual General Meeting held in Toronto, that AutoAgents Founder, Jason Mayhew, is the newest representative for used car dealers in Ontario on the OMVIC Board of Directors. As an online dealership owner himself, Mayhew brings a fresh perspective to the governing body of Ontario car dealers that has been regulating car sales in Ontario for over 25 years, especially after how the pandemic has impacted this industry.

Mayhew has developed a car sales model that is disrupting the automotive industry norm. His startup; AutoAgents, is a complete 180 from the standard dealership model, steering clear of purchasing a large inventory in order to attract clients, and instead approaches each sale in an agile manner, purchasing vehicles on demand as needed. Acting as an expert advisor to help clients not only select the right type of car to buy based on their unique situation, but also finding and purchasing that car on demand for them greatly reduces the risk of customers making a purchase they will later regret, the number one cause of unnecessary losses when purchasing a car. Customers deal with a single "Agent" for their entire car purchase, including maximizing their trade-in value and securing the best financing terms, a far departure from the traditional model of a sales person, finance manager and sales manager who all typically handle a single aspect of the transaction each.

In a post pandemic world where the auto sales industry has been so greatly impacted, vehicle buyers are now provided with so many new choices on how to make their purchase, from shopping online at home to disruptive models like Mayhew and his team at AutoAgents. These changes are welcomed by most, but it can also leave a lot of uncertainty with regards to protection versus purchasing from a traditional dealership. This is why Mayhew's election to the OMVIC board comes at such an important time, lending his experience to help shape future policies affecting these new ways of business and ensuring consumer protection is top of mind.

OMVICs mandate is to protect consumers in what is typically the second largest purchase of their life, ensuring dealerships operate ethically and within the regulations set out in the Ontario Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA). While Canadian consumers are warming up to online car buying, (according to Google Consumer Surveys 60% of Canadians looking to buy a car say they would use an online option) customers are still expected to make such a large decision on their own without advice from an expert, which can result in buyers remorse and 10%-25% losses in a matter of months.
