HONG KONG, Aug. 30, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Today Keychron, established manufacturer of wireless mechanical keyboards for Mac, Windows and Android, launched direct sales of V4 on the brand's website. The V4 is a fully customizable mechanical keyboard suitable for keyboard enthusiasts. It's an entry-level custom keyboard with a mini 60% layout, QMK/VIA support, an acoustic silicone pad, and double-shot PBT keycaps to provide a great typing feel and endless possibilities. The barebone version is $59 USD and the fully assembled version is $79 USD and both models are available in frosted black (translucent) and carbon black (non-transparent).
"60% keyboards remove the function key, numpad, and arrow keys, making it very compact and clean, but all of the function keys can still be accessed through the combination keys," said Paul Tan, COO of Keychron. V4 has good support for remapping the keyboard with VIA, meaning users can build their combination keys based on their habits. To build a fully customizable keyboard, Keychron designed every component to be easily assembled so users can customize and adjust any or every part the way they want. When ordering, users can choose their keycaps, switches and more accessories. The fully assembled version includes solid ABS plastic housing, keyboard PCB, screw-in stabs, steel plate, double-shot OSA PBT keycaps (including Mac & Windows keycaps), and keychron K Pro switches in three color options (red, blue and brown). The barebone version does not include the keycaps and switches.
Other features of V4 include:
- An Epic Core Inside The Keyboard: A brand new powerful ultra-low-power Arm structure MCU armed with 128K Flash will provide more flexibility for developers. The polling rate is up to 1000 Hz out of the box, which makes latency non-existent for the competitive game.
- OSA Profile Double-shot PBT Keycaps: For the new double-shot PBT keycaps, Keychron built a new profile. It has a similar height to the OEM profile and has an SA-like shape. They named it the OSA (OEM spherical angled) keycap. The PBT keycaps will provide excellent oil resistance, enhance the type feel, and prevent the legends from fading out.
- Switch Layouts Between macOS & Windows: Built with the Mac users' experience in mind while still retaining compatibility for Windows devices, the Keychron V4 comes with a system toggle and an additional set of customized keycaps for both Windows and macOS systems. Users can now save two different layouts on the keyboard, one for each system.
- Program V4 with QMK & VIA: With full QMK and VIA support, users can easily program and remap each key on the keyboard. The open-source firmware means endless possibilities for keyboard layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, and more.
- Hot-swappable: The hot-swappable sockets are mounted on the PCB, so users can install or change the switches without soldering. The PCB supports both 3-pin and 5-pin MX mechanical switches.
- South-facing RGB LED Lights: The south-facing RGB LED is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist's angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the users install OEM or Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on the keyboard.
- Pre-lubed Keychron K Pro Switch: The optimized molded switch with more precise positioning and less wobble will undoubtedly improve the feel at fingertips. With the fully assembled V4 version fitted with factory pre-lubricated Keychron K Pro switches, a smoother travel experience is guaranteed.
- All New Screw-In PCB Stabilizers: The screw-in design increases stability and makes it easier for changes and upgrades. Precise craftsmanship makes the stabilizers more stable and less shaky. The big keys' (space bar, shift, enter, backspace) typing experience is now more stable and smooth. The Keychron V4 also supports third-party stabilizers, including Cherry or Durock.
