OREM, Utah, Oct. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Texas Education Agency (TEA), partnering with Learning List, reviewed Studies Weekly Texas K-6 Social Studies curriculum in English and Spanish as a resource for remote learning. The organization concluded that Studies Weekly's digital material offers Texas educators valuable online tools for independent learning, progress monitoring, and teacher training.
Studies Weekly Texas K-6 Social Studies is a core curriculum with strong TEKS alignment and assessment questions that reflect STAAR Reading stems. Publications are available in print and online through Studies Weekly's robust digital learning platform: Studies Weekly Online.
The TEA's review stated that Studies Weekly's online curriculum "provides remote students with a learning experience that is equitable to that of in-person students by providing videos, tools, such as the ones listed above, and motivational games." Remote students can read the same articles and take the same assessments as in-class students with the bonus of an interactive index and highlighting and annotating tools.
"Teachers can provide feedback for students in assignments," the TEA review noted. "Interactive activities give students multiple opportunities to select the correct answer, display the correct and incorrect answers, and repeat the questions in the same order when students select an incorrect answer."
Students can interact with each other as they would in a classroom, thanks to Google Classroom, Canvas, and Schoology integrations.
Online tools available in Studies Weekly Texas for students include:
- Audio narration with highlighting and variable speed control
- Large print reader
- Single-word narration
- Narrated test questions
- High contrast colors
- Closed captioning for videos
For teacher training and support, the Texas curriculum offers:
- Tech support
- Teacher guide
- How-to webinars
- Video model lessons
- Help center with frequently asked questions
- Grade level support meetings
- Differentiation guidance
The Texas Social Studies Teacher Edition is available in Spanish and English with all other training and support provided in English. In addition to lesson plans, resources include guidance on scaffolding and differentiation to support special populations.
TEA contracted with Learning List, an instructional materials review service, to develop these reviews.
"Working with TEA, we structured these reviews to help teachers identify how well a material would support a student who is learning outside of a traditional classroom for any reason, such as a prolonged illness, extra-curricular activities, or travel," said Jackie Lain, president of Learning List. "Thus, while the Covid pandemic may have been the impetus for these reviews, educators and parents will find the reviews valuable long after this pandemic ends."
