New Hanover Research Higher Education Prospective Student Survey Reveals Current Gaps in Student Needs
New report provides insight into prospective students' preferred academic paths, geographic preferences, means of communication, and more.
ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 15, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Hanover Research, a leading provider of data and insights to higher education institutions and leaders, has released new findings from its 2022 National Prospective Student Survey. With nearly a million fewer students enrolled in higher education than before the COVID-19 pandemic, institutions are tasked with filling class rosters as potential students consider a range of competing options and interests. The report examines the factors that are important to prospective students when considering where to apply and enroll.
"Most prospective students view a four-year bachelor's degree program as their top choice, but it's not the only option they'll consider," says Amir Rasool, senior managing director, Hanover Research. "Facing economic uncertainty and concerns about job prospects after graduation, students expect value in their education and a strong return on investment. Prospective students are shrewd consumers, and the factors that influence their choice in postsecondary education have grown more diverse."
Drawing from nationwide insights gathered from more than 1,000 high school sophomores and juniors in July 2022, the report includes key findings on:
- Degree and Program Interests
- Learning Preferences
- Decision-Driving Factors
- Post-Secondary Preparation and Orientation
- Communication Preferences
"Higher education leaders need to understand the changing needs, learning preferences, and concerns of potential students," says Sid Phillips, chief growth officer, Hanover Research. "With so many macroeconomic pressures around the value, affordability, and relevance of a college degree, successful institutions should consistently gather feedback and analyze data from different student populations to frame their offerings and invest in the right support systems that will translate interest into enrollment."
