November 10, 2022--Relief Riders International (RRI) reinstates its signature humanitarian program Khimsar Relief Ride: 15-25 February 2023 following a three-year hiatus. Via horseback, riders of all levels can once again deliver aid to those in need.
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass., Nov. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- RRI's esteemed track record for taking travelers to the forefront of underserved global communities spans 18 years, awarded the United Nations Positive Peace Award for excellence in environmental stewardship, community involvement, and humanitarian service in 2010, and showcased as a business model case study for both Harvard business school and Washington University.
These equestrian undertakings range from assisting medical staff in distributing free medical and social care in the form of cataract surgeries, dentistry, and gynecology to that of extending pediatric care, education, livestock, and health and hygiene programs within developing countries—efforts that have reached over 30,000 patients, 19,000 of whom were children.
The February 2023 Khimsar Relief Ride will depart from the Rajasthani village of Baghsara within India's Thar desert, which once provided refuge to pilgrims and traders on the Silk Route. Riders will traverse vast desert dunes where nomadic tribes lead hundreds of camels toward fertile grazing lands, and temples hold rats in reverence. For centuries, the vegan and animal-loving tribe, the Bishnoi, have adhered to strict no-hunting laws, creating the beautiful anomaly in which all animals roam fearlessly. In addition to this uniquely stunning landscape, reward results from acts of service. Between tented camp stops, volunteer activities range from distributing livestock to widows, aiding at a medical camp that extends dental care and cataract surgeries, and delivering supplies to school children in need before the meaningful adventure culminates at a magical desert oasis camp on the village outskirts of Khimsar.
In 2006, President A.P.J Kalam of India invited RRI to give a personal presentation of their Gift of Sight and rural HIV/AIDS Awareness programs designed to educate migrant labor forces and their communities in rural Rajasthan. According to Alexander Souri, Executive Director of RRI, their mission in India is more pertinent than ever. "We are very much looking forward to getting back to work. Long-term disruptions in basic healthcare services have impacted larger cities, imagine just how debilitating recent times have been for rural populations without any healthcare."
