Annual roundup highlights the private equity and venture capital firms with the best track records of success backing entrepreneurs

Inc. this week announced its fourth annual Founder-Friendly Investors list, honoring the private equity and venture capital firms with the best track records of success backing entrepreneurs. Previously known as the Private Equity 50, Inc. this year continued its expansion to include venture capital firms. H/L Ventures, one of the original venture studios and among New York's most active firms focused on impact and diversity, was recognized this year for its investment in BlocPower, among others.

Inc.’s final list recognizes 184 firms that entrepreneurs collaborate with and trust as they receive the financial support they need to help drive growth. H/L supports approximately 50 companies, including BlocPower, which was also recognized by Inc. BlocPower, is a Brooklyn-based climate technology company rapidly greening American cities. For their work, they have won numerous accolades including being recognized as one of TIME100’s Most Influential Companies of 2022 and ranking #4 on Fast Company Most Innovative Companies of 2022 list.

“We are honored to be recognized this year on Inc.’s 2022 List of Founder-Friendly Investors.” said Oliver Libby, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of H/L Ventures. “Our portfolio companies know they can expect more from us than just a financial investment. H/L takes pride in the central tenet of our model: Daily Active Engagement. Direct support of our portfolio companies with as many resources as we can deploy both makes us a stronger partner for our founders, and, we believe, increases the likelihood of successful companies.”

“Fully investing in an entrepreneur, and their innovative vision, involves far more than the financial investment. By developing relationships with and supporting entrepreneurs for the long-term, these private equity firms are more than investors, they’re partners,” says Scott Omelianuk, Editor-in-Chief of Inc. Media.

H/L Ventures was founded in 2009 built on the foundation of its unique model of Daily Active Engagement executed at the nexus of growth, impact and diversity. Daily Active Engagement means that H/L is in virtually daily contact with each portfolio company founder and their teams. This means providing support in strategy, accessing key resources, business development, partnerships, recruiting, people and talent operations, marketing, branding, thought leadership, coaching, governance, and more. H/L’s mission is to invest in and curate a strong bond with each of its founders, staying with each portfolio company for the duration of the entrepreneurship journey and becoming a key strategic advisor to each founder.

H/L’s portfolio is filled with impact driven companies, many creating breakthrough solutions in the areas of clean energy, climate security, sustainable solutions, health and wellness, financial inclusion, future of work and workplace, and better-for-you consumer products. H/L believes that investing in impact and diversity, and supporting its founders through active engagement, makes good business.
