"Neutral is proud to be recognized in both the Food & Beverage and Sustainability Categories, which squarely positions us at the intersection of who we are as a company,” said Marcus Lovell Smith, CEO, Neutral.

Neutral Foods, the nation’s first carbon neutral food company, has been named to the Inc. 2022 Best in Business list in both the Food & Beverage and Sustainability categories. Inc.’s Best in Business Awards honor companies that have made an extraordinary impact in their fields and on society.

“We’re honored to be placed on Inc.’s Best in Business list as we continue to scale and grow. Neutral is proud to be recognized in both the Food & Beverage and Sustainability Categories, which squarely positions us at the intersection of who we are as a company,” said Marcus Lovell Smith, CEO, Neutral. “As a start-up brand on a mission to radically reduce the carbon footprint of agriculture, these awards continue to validate our innovative on-farm projects, while also looking for new and different ways to introduce even more climate-friendly products beyond dairy offerings to conscious consumers.”

The list, which can be found in the Winter issue of Inc. magazine (on newsstands December 13), recognizes the most dynamic companies of all sizes and industries that have had an outstanding influence on their communities, their industries, the environment, or society as a whole.

“Inc. magazine is dedicated to showcasing America’s most dynamic businesses and the great things they do,” said Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief, Inc. “The Best in Business awards shine a light on those that have gone above and beyond their original mission to make a social, environmental or economic impact, benefiting those around them.”

Rather than relying on quantitative criteria tied to sales or funding, Inc.’s editors reviewed the companies’ achievements over the past year and noted how they made a positive difference in the world. They then selected honorees in 55 different categories – from advertising to sustainability to retail, and more – and in age-based, revenue-based, size-based, and impact-based categories. The applicant pool was extremely competitive – a huge success for the 241 honored in the list’s third year. Honorees for gold, silver, bronze, and general excellence across industries and categories are featured online at

Neutral Foods is the first company in the U.S. to measure, reduce and offset the climate impact of its dairy products, which include organic whole and 2% milk, organic half & half, and pasture-raised butter. This ensures that it is 100% carbon-neutral and that no new net greenhouse gas emissions are generated in its production, transportation, or consumption and disposal. Neutral does this without compromising on taste or quality, resulting in creamy and nutritious milk that helps fight climate change.

Neutral Foods, the first carbon neutral food company in the United States, backed by Bill Gates founded Breakthrough Energy Ventures, offers carbon neutral dairy products nationwide. It’s on a mission to radically reduce the nearly 37 percent of global emissions the agriculture industry produces. Started in 2019 in Portland, Oregon, Neutral is a national brand that works directly with farmers to reduce the carbon footprint of dairy products - for good. Neutral has organic and conventional carbon neutral dairy solutions for retail, food service, and ingredient needs and intends to broaden its impact with other agricultural foods. Additional Neutral investors are Mark Cuban and David Adelman’s Darco Capital, which led a celebrity round of investors, including LeBron James, John Legend, and Questlove. Japanese firm Global Brain, its CVC partners Kirin Holdings Company, Limited and Norinchukin Bank, and Craig Shapiro of the New York-based Collaborative Fund have also invested in Neutral and its vision of a more sustainable food system.
