A celebration of greatness for Black history as well as 40 years of business excellence for This Is It! Southern Kitchen & Bar-B-Q
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga., Dec. 16, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The year 2023 will mark 40 years of This Is It! Southern Kitchen & Bar-B-Q. Home of the infamous chant, "It's the rib tips", This Is It! has a cadre of events planned to commemorate this major, historical milestone. Among them is a Black History celebration in the form of an awards luncheon to take place Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 11:30 at the corporate office located at 105 McIntosh Crossing in Fayetteville, GA.
With an anniversary theme of "Celebrating 40 Years of Faith, Family, Favor and Flavor," the awards luncheon will not only share the history of This Is It!, but individuals who have excelled in the categories of faith, family, favor and flavor will also be recognized. "Without a doubt, we have come a long way," states Shelley "Butch" Anthony III, This Is It's CEO and Founder. Although the company's earliest existence dates back to 1951 in Tampa, Florida, its operations in the Atlanta area began as Butch's Slide Inn Bar-B-Q in 1976, and as This Is It! Seafood in 1983. The first restaurant was located at the borderline of Atlanta and Decatur near the intersection of Candler and Glenwood Roads. Mr. Anthony adds, "The longevity of the company is most definitely a blessing. But we thought it would be fitting during Black History Month to highlight others who are also making significant contributions in the areas of faith, family, favor and flavor."
Honorees for the day include Faith: Rev. Edward S. Reynolds and Judge Penny Brown Reynolds of Midway Missionary Baptist Church; Family: Janice and Carolyn Wilbourn of Wilbourn Sisters Designs, Dan Moore Sr. and Dan Moore Jr. of the APEX Museum, and Willie Watkins of Willie Watkins Funeral Home; Favor: speakers Tawana Williams and Keisha Green, who have, both, championed the challenges of being amputees, and David Manuel, kidney transplant survivor, fatherhood advocate and arts connoisseur; and Flavor: honorees in this category are to be announced. The afternoon will be a time of reflecting and celebrating through music, inspirational stories, networking and, of course, food.
