Bolani's new book exposes outmoded traditions for what they are and encourages black women to take a stand and break the cycle of abuse, humiliation, and inequality.
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, April 13, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Following the radical success of her first book, We Are the Ones We Need: The War on Black Professionals in Corporate South Africa, Award-Nominated Author, Strategist, Podcaster, and Speaker, Sihle Bolani, is this time challenging black women to break free from outmoded traditions and end the cycle of abuse and inequality in her new book, Nah, Keep your Strength.
Bolani offers a deeply personal and heartbreaking account of life as an unmarried woman taking on the double standards and intrinsic prejudices of African society in her new book.
The author aptly begins her story with chapters about her grandmother, her mother, and herself by outlining their experiences as women in the African culture and the injustices, and humiliation, they had to endure. As a third-generation single mother, the author also candidly shares the complexities of parenting, career challenges, financial woes, and relationship failures with a strength born of necessity and fuelled by a deep abiding love for her daughter. Bolani boldly takes on the outmoded traditions and stereotypical beliefs and proves that by harnessing their quiet power, women can and will thrive.
Black women have long been a symbol of strength in both African and Black American cultures, which has inadvertently set the standard for how they should respond to trauma, racism, social injustice, inequality, and gender-based violence. But in her book, Bolani highlights that strength is often permission for manipulation and abuse and that's the strength she is snubbing.
"I felt compelled to own my truth and share it," said Bolani when asked about her motivation for writing the book. "I've observed the deteriorating state of our communities and the divide amongst us and this is something I strongly believe in fighting for. So, this is part of my contribution to that fight."
Nah, Keep Your Strength is beautifully written and the author's raw honesty is refreshing. Readers are forced to examine the ways they have conformed to society's definition of strength and are challenged to break the cycle of abuse, inequality, and humiliation and stand up for the truth. Bolani's resounding message to women in this book is to first take care of themselves and come to the realization that they are setting up future generations of girls for failure if they expect themselves to be perfect in every role.
Bolani's publishing company, SNR Publishing will be debuting her published book, Nah, Keep Your Strength. The book is available for purchase on the author's website, Amazon.com, and Kindle and the launch will take place on Sihle Bolani's YouTube channel and Facebook on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 1 pm SAST.
