LAS VEGAS, April 23, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- nablet, a leading provider of media processing technologies, announced the release of the JPEG XS SDK, making it easy to implement the powerful JPEG XS format, co-authored by Fraunhofer IIS. The SDK is available now, for Linux and Windows, and nablet will release additional technologies powered by JPEG XS.
JPEG XS means extra speed and extra small. This new standard for video production offers visually lossless quality with compression ratios up to 10:1. It also supports resolution up to 8K, and frame rates from 24 to 120 FPS. In addition, JPEG XS does not introduce additional loss on recompression; if a frame is compressed again, the image quality remains at its initial level. JPEG XS is designed for interoperability and easy, cost-effective integrations into IP-based infrastructures.
"The standardized JPEG XS codec makes it possible to handle high quality media workflows from acquisition to distribution by using Internet Protocol (IP) and Ethernet infrastructure. It bridges the gap between the transport of uncompressed video and highly compressed distribution formats by preserving low latency," explains Prof. Dr. Siegfried Foessel, Head of the Moving Picture Technologies Department at Fraunhofer IIS.
