NSCS recognizes dedicated advisors making a positive impact on student lives on college campuses around the US.
WASHINGTON, May 9, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), today announced the recipients of their annual National Advisor of the Year awards and Regional NSCS Chapter Advisor of the Year awards. Professor Elizabeth Rhoades from the University of Akron has been named the Laura Taddeucci Downs National Advisor of the Year. Professor Rhoades stands out as one of our top chapter advisors and is an amazing pillar and strong mentor for the students and NSCS members at the University of Akron.
"Professor Rhoades always goes above and beyond for her students and the members of NSCS. She attends officer meetings, helps execute events with her knowledge of, and history with, NSCS, and is a reliable contact for anything we need as officers," said Abigail Geiser, chapter president for the NSCS chapter at the University of Akron. "She is always willing to help out and support the officers and other members. In the fall 2021 semester, her help in executing our Pinning Ceremony for new members was invaluable. We honor her for all the help and support she's given to us throughout the year."
NSCS also announced its 2021 – 2022 regional advisor of the year award recipients. They are Dr. Kim Buch, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Ms. Chelsea Zbikowski, American Military University-American Public University (Region 1), Ms. Victoria Bañuelos, New Mexico State University, and Dr. Li Jin, DePaul University (Region 2), Ms. Jenn Cook, Western Washington University, and Ms. Melissa Hoffner, University of Northern Colorado (Region 3), and Ms. Heather Kowaleski, Saginaw Valley State University, and Dr. Thomas Shaw, University of South Alabama (Region 4).
Other special advisor awards announced include: Co-Advisor Team of the Year awarded to Dr. Breanna Naegeli and Ms. Anna Cofrancesco, Grand Canyon University; New Advisor of the Year awarded to Ms. Nicole Bathke, Full Sail University, Dr. Ching-Yu Huang, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Ms. Mallory Metz, Texas Woman's University; and Founding Chapter Advisor of the Year awarded to Ms. DéJeuné Green, University of New Orleans.
"We know 'the great resignation' has had an impact on college campuses over the past 24 months which makes the dedication these advisors have shown to supporting student success so impressive," said NSCS Executive Director Scott Mobley. "As higher education professionals, they are committed to ensuring students have access to the resources they need as they pursue their college dreams. All recipients of this honor are NSCS advisors who displayed steadfast leadership and unwavering support and dedication to their NSCS chapter over the past year through coaching and mentoring student officers and chapter members to embody the society's three pillars of scholarship, leadership and service.
