BALTIMORE, Md., May 19, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Upbeat is excited to announce that the company was chosen as a Maryland Leads Partner to support Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the state with "Staff Support and Retention." Maryland Leads is the state's new grant initiative designed to support Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in utilizing more than $150 million in federal funds to target a wide variety of needs, including providing support for staff and teacher pipelines and increasing retention.
LEAs focused on "Staff Support and Retention," including the development and implementation of strategic plans to better support and retain staff, conducting needs assessment, collecting stakeholder feedback, evaluation programs and planning for sustainability, can choose to work with Upbeat and utilize the Maryland Leads grant funding.
Founded by former teachers, Upbeat works with districts across the country to administer a comprehensive research-based survey to both certified and classified staff. The company has a platform that measures growth in research-based categories that impact teacher retention, including school climate, hiring and onboarding, professional development, and teacher appreciation.
"Working with Upbeat is one of the best decisions I have made as a superintendent," Newton County Schools (GA) Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey said. "Upbeat's granular teacher engagement data alongside their principal leadership coaching have resulted in improvements to our teacher retention after only one year of working together."
After analyzing the staff engagement data, district leaders will work with an Upbeat Leadership Coach, a former district or school leader, to examine data and understand key insights in the district's current retention and engagement efforts. This process has helped lead to increased retention in many other school districts and the goal will be to replicate that success in Maryland districts.
"Throughout the last two years, we've seen increased importance to prioritize employees' voices and taking strategic steps to improve teacher retention," Founder and CEO Henry Wellington said. "We're excited about the possibility of partnering with districts throughout Maryland to provide that support."
Upbeat continues to build strategic partnerships with schools and districts across the country in an effort to improve teacher engagement and retention using data. More information about the company and its approach can be found at teachupbeat.com.
