Upward Labs Announces Selection of Six Net Zero Companies
Venture fund to invest in technologies that will help decarbonize the real estate industry
NEW YORK, July 21, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Upward Labs has selected the first six companies that will participate in the inaugural program of its Net Zero Lab. The announcement was made by Shana Schlossberg, CEO Upward Labs.
The Net Zero Lab, which launched in early 2022, is designed to identify innovative solutions that will help decarbonize the real estate industry. The Lab pairs Net Zero startups from around the world with a limited number of large commercial and multifamily owners, operators and developers who are committed to achieving carbon reduction and Net Zero in their properties. Upward Labs facilitates a collaborative program that rapidly explores use cases, pilots, and commercialization opportunities between the startups and partners. At the end of the program, the Lab invests in the most promising technologies.
"When selecting companies for our program we focused on technologies that can provide measurable and immediate value for real estate partners," said Upward Labs CEO Shana Schlossberg. "Our partners have aggressive ESG targets and are committed to piloting and adopting solutions that will help them achieve their goals. The Upward Labs team is working to identify solutions from around the globe that will take a leading role in decarbonizing the real estate industry."
The six companies selected for the program are Inovues, Setpoint, QEA Tech, Earthgrid, SolarGaps and Enkoat.
Inovues enables existing building facades to be retrofitted with the latest energy-saving and smart glass innovations without replacement or disruption. Through non-invasive insulating glass retrofits, Inovues offers building owners a high-ROI low-carbon solution to save up to 40% on energy consumption, improve thermal and acoustic comfort, and increase the value and sustainability of the building.
Setpoint develops indoor climate automation for multi-room buildings. The company deploys wireless climate node networks that enable users to sense, analyze, and automate the indoor climate in every room, through a Climate Intelligence Platform. Applying sophisticated data models and deep learning algorithms, the fully integrated system allows commercial building operators to monitor and control the climate in every room.
QEA Tech provides fast and non-disruptive audits using industrial drones equipped with HD thermal and visual cameras to capture thousands of images of buildings. These images are analyzed to highlight any issues and then processed through their proprietary software to quantify the energy loss through the building envelope and offer remediation cost estimates.
Earthgrid makes tunneling technology designed to facilitate the movement and transfer of 100% clean energy, water, high-speed data and e-commerce goods via pneumatic tubes. The company achieves this by using a plasma-powered robot that is 100x faster and 1/100th the cost of conventional tunneling techniques.
SolarGaps developed the world's first smart solar blinds which automatically adjust the angle for the most effective solar energy capturing and better shading performance. The blinds maintain the desired room temperature, control light, adjust to customer daily habits and changing weather conditions, and integrate into various smart home and commercial buildings management systems.
EnKoat is developing a platform thermal storage technology in the form of building envelope materials such as paint, plaster, stucco and wall panels that can reduce heating and cooling costs by passively regulating the temperature of a building. EnKoat's Active Insulation paint solution is an exterior elastomeric paint for walls and roofs which reduces heating and cooling costs by 20-30%.
