Offering Special Snorkeling Packages for Teams, Parents and Fans of 8 Team Tournament
MAUI, Hawai'i, Sep. 6, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Maui Snorkeling announces sponsorship of the 39th Maui Jim Maui Invitational, the nation's premier early-season college basketball tournament. The official sponsorship provides support to the tournament through cash and in-kind services along with discounted tour packages for the players, their families, participating universities and their administrations, the media, and to all Maui Invitational ticket holders.
The tournament, having started in 1990, sees nearly 5,000 out-of-state visitors - players, officials, team and game personnel, media representatives, sponsors, production crews, and fans descend on Maui for the Fall-scheduled event. It's hosted in Lahaina, a historic whaling village that boasts a history as deep as the roots of the city's symbol - the old Banyan tree. Lahaina used to be a playground for Hawaiian royalty and was once the capital of Maui, the second largest island of Hawaii.

About the Maui Jim Maui Invitational
In December 1982, then No. 1 ranked Virginia, led by National College Player of the Year Ralph Sampson, played little-known NAIA Chaminade University in Honolulu while on the way back from a trip to Tokyo. The Silverswords stunned Virginia 77-72 in one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history. Two years later, in 1984, Chaminade University hosted the first Maui Jim Maui Invitational and it has proven to be the premier early-season college basketball tournament for 36 years running.
