Film Chronicles Life of Pioneering Dr. Bernard Bail, Dedicated to Healing Mental Suffering Narrated by Emmy Award Winner Peter Coyote, Now Available to Stream on APPLETV,iTunes, Amazon Prime
LOS ANGELES, Calif., Sept. 14, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "AND NOW, LOVE." the original documentary feature written, directed, and produced by Jill Demby Guest, chronicles the story of Dr. Bernard W. Bail, a highly decorated Jewish WWII Veteran who was captured by the Nazis and saved by the secret love of his German nurse. Bail became a doctor and psychoanalyst who continued where Freud stopped – pioneering the "mother's imprint," a theory that advocates for the equality of women and pinpoints the origins of mental illness. Narrated by Emmy award winner Peter Coyote, the Dreamscape Entertainment film will be available beginning September 13, 2022, to stream in the U.S. on Apple TV, iTunes, Amazon Prime, and other major streaming platforms. The feature is distributed by Passion River Films in the U.S. and internationally by Penned Pictures.
The documentary memoir "AND NOW, LOVE," pulls back the curtain on the remarkable life of Dr. Bail and his near-death experience while being cared for by a German nurse that exposed him to a new world of spirituality and feelings and, ultimately, to the power of the feminine. Dedicated to healing mental anguish, he became a doctor and psychoanalyst, and through his intensive work in the unconscious via the dream, he developed a new paradigm for psychoanalysis centered at the beginning of human life, described in his book, "The Mother's Signature: A Journal of Dreams." Dr. Bail believed it is the centuries of abuse and oppression women have suffered that have brought us to this tipping point and that women must have a place at the table if there's to be peace in the world.
"I have always been fascinated with how people choose to live their lives and Dr. Bernard Bail's courageous devotion to fighting oppression on all fronts impressed me," said Demby Guest. "First as a lead radar navigator fighting the Nazis in WWII, to anti-Semitism at home, to fighting for freedom of
thought in psychoanalysis. His goal was and continues to be to heal the human mind from suffering, to promote love, and for women to have a place at the table in order to finally achieve world peace."
Produced by Emmy-nominated producer, writer, and director Demby Guest, the film chronicles Dr. Bail's personal journey as he courageously fights his way out of Philadelphia's immigrant ghetto, across war-torn Europe through the resistance of the psychoanalytic establishment to new ideas. For his military service during World War II, Dr. Bail received the Distinguished Service Cross, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, five Air Medals, five Battle Stars in the European Theater of Operations, a Purple Heart, a Prisoner of War Medal, and the 44th Bomb Group Presidential Citation. In addition, in 2006, the French government awarded Dr. Bail the French Legion of Honor, the highest military honor bestowed by France.
"At its heart, 'And Now, Love' is a love story. "What I felt with and learned from Bernard in the few years we shared together might have taken me a lifetime to come to on my own. I am ever so grateful for the gift he gave to me," said Cynthia Marks, life partner and widow of Dr. Bail. "The transformative energy that I felt because of his unfettered love for me was more than life-changing. Still, today, when I have a moment to close my eyes and conjure up a memory of this amazing man, I am physically warmed, emotionally cradled, and inspired to be my true self. I remember to walk in this world navigated by love."
With a lifelong passion for biographical documentaries, Demby Guest received an Emmy nomination for KCET's "Arts and Culture: Charles Dickson," and has produced numerous films for PBS. She garnered
three film festival wins as Best Documentary Director and Best Documentary for "And Now, Love," and received a Promax Gold Award for "Without A Trace." Demby Guest has also worked extensively with Disney and Warner Brothers on many documentaries for their DVD releases, including "John Lennon: Imagine with Yoko Ono," "The West Wing," "National Treasure," and more. Next up for Demby Guest is a narrative comedy currently in post-production on a feature that she executive produced "Sallywood," which will be coming to theaters next year. Additionally, she is currently in the development of a documentary highlighting PTSD and Anti-Semitism.
