NEW YORK, Feb. 17, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Red Thread Productions announced today that Spinnaker has received a Bronze Award in the Sustainability, Environment, & Climate category in the 2nd Annual Anthem Awards.
Anthem Winners are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. The Anthem Awards was launched in response to the prevalence social good has taken within the national conversation and cultural zeitgeist in recent years. The 2nd Annual competition received nearly 2,000 entries from 43 countries worldwide.
Spinnaker is the bittersweet story of one whale's life and loss and the bravery of those who tried to save her. The documentary highlights the brave men and women of the Center for Coastal Studies, who risk their lives to save the lives of imperiled marine life facing catastrophic injury from industrial fishing and marine debris.
The Center for Coastal Studies tracked Spinnaker from her birth to her death and across three entanglement events. Stormy Mayo, a founder of CCS and marine biologist, says "Entanglement is one of the leading causes for large whale mortality. It impacts a lot of different marine animals…by helping an individual, you are helping buoy up a critically endangered species".
"We are thankful to Spinnaker for helping us understand the impact our human actions have on the world around us," says Spinnaker Director and Executive Producer Nadine Licostie.
Anthem Award honorees this year include Gloria Steinem, the founders of Ben & Jerry's, Ben Cohen & Jerry Greenfield, Billy Porter, Gabrielle Giffords, Amanda Gorman, Abigail E. Disney.
Spinnaker joins other 2nd Annual Anthem Awards Winners that include Lil Nas X, Michelle Obama's When We All Vote, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Planned Parenthood, Sir David Attenborough's The Green Planet, Sesame Street, Marina Abramovic, The Asian American Foundation, ACLU, Sephora, Selma Blair, It Gets Better Project, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ciara, UNHCR, NASA, Rihanna's The Clara Lionel Foundation and so many more activists and leaders in impact.
