Law Firm Encourages All to Celebrate the Fun and Value of Reading
March is National Reading Month. Research from the U.S. Department of Education shows that children who have access to books in their homes have better educational outcomes. Reading for fun allows children to explore different worlds and produces better adult readers for the future. However, research also shows that 2.5 million children are enrolled in school districts with no library, and 13 million are enrolled in school districts where children’s circulation materials equal less than ten items per student.
Unfortunately, keeping books on the shelf while keeping up with bills, food, and other everyday living costs can be challenging for many families in Ohio.
That’s why Cleveland-based law firm Nurenberg, Paris, Heller & McCarthy is announcing its 2023 Bookshop Gift Card Giveaway. The initiative is giving away 20 $50 gift cards to Bookshop, an online bookstore that connects readers to independent bookstores worldwide. The giveaway supports the children while helping struggling booksellers compete with major booksellers online.
“Reading can help children’s imaginations by introducing them to concepts and cultures beyond their life experience. When kids read, they put themselves in the story and develop empathy as they learn about the characters’ lives,” says managing partner Jonathan Mester. “Our law firm offers the 2023 Bookshop Gift Card Giveaway because we want to help kids discover their creative potential or simply hang out with a good book. I encourage parents, grandparents, and anyone with a child in their life to enter to win.”
To kick off the giveaway, entries will begin in time to celebrate Read Across America Day on March 2, 2023. Read Across America Day is the nation’s largest celebration of reading, and more than 45 million young and old readers are expected to participate by picking up a book and reading.
Between now and March 31, families can enter to win one of 20 $50 gift cards by visiting nphm.com/celebrate-reading and filling out the short entry form on the page. The law firm will pick 20 winners of a $100 Bookshop gift card. All winners will be contacted after March 31, 2023, at the email address or phone number supplied when entering.
