Horizon Racing USA Announces Plan To Row Across The Pacific Ocean
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) April 05, 2023 -- Horizon Racing USA, a team of elite coastal rowers, has announced an ambitious plan to row across the Pacific Ocean in the summer of 2024. The team, consisting of Hannah Huppi, Hunter Deuel, William Meeker and Philip Hoyle, will embark on a grueling journey of 2,800 miles, starting from Monterey, California, and ending in Kauai, Hawaii.
The team is no stranger to the world of rowing and athletics. Each member brings a wealth of experience, having competed for several elite rowing teams, including Team USA. Horizon Racing USA's goal is not only to complete the journey but also to break the current co-ed record of 57 days, set by the crew of "Pacific Warriors" in 2014. They are also positioned to set an American record by being the first all-American co-ed team to row the Pacific.
"Our team is thrilled to embark on this incredible adventure across the Pacific Ocean," said Hannah Huppi, one of the founders of Horizon Racing USA. "We all have different motivations for taking on this epic challenge, but we are unified under the goal to push the limits of human endurance and attempt to break the world record. Our journey will be physically and mentally demanding, but we are ready for the challenge."
The row, which will begin on June 12th, 2024, is part of The World’s Toughest Row, a race put on by the leading organizer of ocean rowing expeditions. The team will race up to 20 other teams in an effort to be the first boat to land in Hanalei Bay, Kauai. While the challenge is overseen by race officials, all teams are self-supported, meaning they must carry all of their supplies for the entirety of the row.
While at sea, the team will row continuously for 24 hours a day, in two-hour shifts, battling extreme weather conditions, fatigue, and the unpredictable nature of the open ocean. “Not only do we have to train our bodies to withstand these extreme conditions, but we also have to train our minds,” said Huppi. “Sleep deprivation will be one of our biggest challenges.”
Horizon Racing USA is also using the expedition as a way to inspire young people and promote the transformative power of sport. The team has partnered with Laureus Sport For Good USA, an organization that uses sport to combat social challenges and promote positive change in communities throughout the United States. "Our team is thrilled to partner with Laureus Sport for Good USA," said Huppi. "We believe in the power of sport to bring people together and create positive change, and we are proud to support Laureus’ mission."
Horizon Racing USA's expedition has already garnered significant support from the rowing and adventure sports community. The team is currently seeking sponsors to support their expedition.
