SARASOTA, Fla. (PRWEB) June 20, 2023 -- The Maritime Rowing Club won a National Championship in the Men’s Youth 4x on Sunday, June 11th at the 28th USRowing Youth National Championship in Sarasota, Florida. The club also came away with a National Championship in the Men’s Under 15 Coxed Quad and a bronze medal in the Women’s Under 16 Coxed Quad. These wins mark the 20th national championship won by the club in its 27-year history and the 10th win in the men’s quad event.
With 835 entries and 4,000 athletes representing 225 clubs from all over the country, the event was the largest ever. All crews had to qualify for the regatta through regional regattas held last month. Maritime Rowing qualified 15 crews and 63 athletes in the Youth, U17, U16 and U15 age categories.
“There’s a lot of pressure on these athletes between school, practice, and expectations. We’re really proud of how well they all handle themselves. Winning isn’t the goal but rather the result of doing all the little things well.” said Sharon Kriz, Director of Rowing Programs and Co-Head Boys Coach.
“This is a win for the whole club. Every athlete and every coach plays a part in helping the top boat to a National Championship!” said Yan Vengerovskiy, Co-Founder of MRC and Head Boys Coach.
“We are so proud of our girls. We train all year long for these races. Being able to stay focused and race to the best of our ability is a true testament to each athletes’ dedication to reaching their goals!” says Yulia Chagina, MRC Head Girls Coach.
