Team members enjoy the opportunity to compete and play in multiple sports

Our gymnastics teams practice between four and 12 hours a week, depending on their level. This isn’t the first win for our Xcel teams, and they have always performed well in competitions

The Shrewsbury Club, Massachusetts’ premier full-service tennis, health, and athletic club, announced that its SEGA Xcel Bronze Gymnastics Team took first place at the Thompson Holiday Invitational, held December 2 through 4 at the Bartley Center in Holyoke. The Xcel program, a USA Gymnastics competitive program, offers flexibility to both coaches and gymnasts and a rewarding gymnastics experience for all participants. The Shrewsbury Club’s team competed against other teams from throughout the state.

Bronze represents the first level of the five-level Xcel program and requires participants to accomplish a set of routines to participate, including vault, bar routines, beam, and floor routines. In addition to the Bronze team taking first place, the club’s XCEL Silver team placed first for the second year in a row; the Gold team placed fifth, and the Platinum team placed third.

“Our gymnastics teams practice between four and 12 hours a week, depending on their level,” said Heather Fulginiti, director of Gymnastics at The Shrewsbury Club. “This isn’t the first win for our Xcel teams, and they have always performed well in competitions.”

Fulginiti made the decision to focus on the Xcel program in particular, because of its flexibility in allowing gymnasts to be multi-sport athletes as they grow. “Being the high school gymnastics coach for the past ten years has really given me the chance to see gymnastics from all angles. Allowing our athletes to play in multiple sports makes them appreciate gymnastics that much more,” added Fulginiti.
