Forward Design Build Remodel is a local Ann Arbor, MI design-build firm that takes giving back very seriously. They have an initiative called Pay it Forward and their entire team works to help local non-profits and individuals in need. Recently they completed an amazing remodel for a local retired military Veteran, Bob Kurtz. Kurtz is a Pay it Forward sort of person who devotes much of his time to supporting Veterans as they re-enter civilian life.

Recently, Forward Design Build Remodel organized a remodeling project to benefit local retired U.S. Air Force Veteran, Bob Kurtz, as part of their Pay It Forward philanthropic campaign. With the assistance of several trade partners, the Forward Design Build Remodel team made several critical modifications to his home, at no charge to the homeowner. These included a bathroom remodel, repairing a malfunctioning sewer line, replacing faulty exterior steps and improving the atmosphere of the home by adding in more light and new flooring. Initially Kurtz was to receive a standard bathroom sink repair from the design-build team. However, upon evaluating the bathroom, it was quickly discovered that there were dangerous conditions within the home’s sewer line, with leaking sewer gas posing a serious health risk to Kurtz. Given the danger represented by the leak, Forward Design Build Remodel sprung into action, enlisting the help of trade partners to participate in a much more extensive bathroom overhaul. Several local businesses offered their services and materials, including: Chelsea Plumbing (providing plumbing work and fixtures), Koby Craftsmen (supplying and installing underlayment), Nelson Floor Covering (flooring donation) and Aardvark Manufacturing Home Service & Supply (contributing both materials and labor). In addition to the bathroom renovation, the team also installed a safe stair runner for Kurtz’s interior steps, flooring, interior lighting fixtures, new exterior steps, a window, and replaced his roof, as well. Kurtz now has an updated home where he can safely enjoy his retirement years. Given his history of service and sacrifice for his country, the Forward Design Build Remodel team was grateful for the opportunity to volunteer their time and talents to assist Kurtz in his time of need. They hope to expand the number of deserving Ann Arbor residents they help in 2023 and have set up a GoFundMe campaign to support this endeavor -
