Transgender woman alleges she was a victim of harassment and discrimination by the powerful union that unlawfully fired her.
LOS ANGELES, March 10, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A former employee of the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters has filed suit in Los Angeles alleging that she was harassed, discriminated against, and wrongfully terminated simply because she is a transgender woman.
According to the lawsuit, the former employee thought she had obtained her dream job in housing policy for the powerful, politically connected Los Angeles union. But the "dream job became a nightmare" when she "began visibly presenting as gender queer and transitioning her gender identity," the suit alleges.
The lawsuit alleges that, as she "presented herself as more visibly transfeminine" (including wearing women's tops, shoes, hair styles, nail polish and earrings), the former employee immediately received a "harsh and unwelcoming reaction from her supervisor and colleagues," including being humiliated and isolated in the workplace. Soon afterwards, she was abruptly and unjustifiably fired – simply because she is a transgender woman.
This lawsuit against Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters follows two other recent lawsuits alleging sexual harassment and LGBTQ discrimination by former employees.

The lawsuit, filed on March 3, 2023 in Los Angeles Superior Court, is captioned Baum v. Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters et al., LASC Case No. 23STCV04678.
