The Symphonina Foundation Announces 2023 Best Symphonina of the Year Award Competition
Composers from around the world are invited to submit their best original (unpublished) Symphonina for consideration in this annual contest.
SAN DIEGO, May 17, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Symphonina Foundation is pleased to announce the 2023 Best Symphonina of the Year Award Competition. Composers from around the world are invited to submit their best original (unpublished) Symphonina for consideration in this annual contest. The first place award will receive a $2000 prize and the second place award will receive a $1000 prize. The Symphonina Foundation will endeavor to recognize and promote all submissions that the judges deem suitable for recognition.
Interested participants can find more information about the contest and how to participate here. Contestants must read the full rules of the contest found at the foundation's website http://www.symphonina.org. Only one submission for consideration may be offered by a composer. The competition deadline is 11:59pm, Pacific Time, December 1, 2023, with all entries being sent to Symphonina founder Dr. David Fogel ([email protected]) in mp3 format. Prior to submission, entrants are encouraged to email any questions regarding the competition directly to Dr. Fogel.
The Symphonina Foundation held its inaugural Best Symphonina of the Year competition in 2022. The compositions by first-prize winner Christopher Reed (USA) and runner-up Steve Locks (UK) are available on the Symphonina Foundation's SoundCloud channel, along with submissions of distinction by Richard White (USA), James Dumas (USA), and Marc Caroul (USA). The Symphoninas can be streamed on SoundCloud here.
Symphoninas are small symphonies, written with three or four movements with melodic themes, and play in about 10 minutes. The Symphonina genre was created by Dr. David Fogel, co-founder of The Symphonina Foundation, as a way to help symphonic music become more amenable to online streaming and reaching younger audiences.
The Symphonina Foundation is currently preparing for the release of the Foundation's first album featuring live performances by the players in the International Symphonina Orchestra, along with the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. In 2022, Budapest Scoring recorded Dr. Fogel's compositions Symphonina No. 1 and Symphonina No. 2. Now, individual players from around the world have also been recorded as part of the International Symphonina Orchestra. This virtual/remote orchestra was formed to provide an opportunity for young players to play along with experienced professionals and promote opportunities for young people internationally. The orchestra comprises excellent young performers from the USA, Nigeria, Argentina, France, and other countries playing along with virtuosos such as violinist and Concertmaster Oleksander Bozhyk (Ukraine), former touring concert pianist Chetan Tierra (USA), and two-time Grammy-winning flute player Wouter Kellerman (South Africa).
