Denver area theatre troupe heads to Scotland to debut a new music theatre work, Eigg the Musical, at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
DENVER, May 22, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Colorado composer, April Alsup, announced today the dates for the debut of Eigg the Musical at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Denver area theatre troupe will head to Scotland this Summer to pay tribute to Scottish traditions, highland tales and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the community buyout of the Isle of Eigg.
The show is the brainchild of April Alsup (music & lyrics) and Mark Sbani (book) and was a perfect fit for everyone on both sides of the pond. "You never really know how well your show will resonate with the creative programming vision of a theatre company" said April Alsup, "we introduced our concept to Greenside Venues earlier this year and they were thrilled to include our show in their 2023 festival lineup."
It was inevitable that the show would be part of the festival this year. The Scottish-inspired musical examines the fascinating history of sovereignty on the Isle of Eigg. It's been said that the transfer to community ownership hatched on Eigg is the most captivating example of Scottish land reform and a catalyst for Scotland's Land Reform Act of 2003.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world's largest performance arts festival, which in 2019 spanned 25 days and featured more than 59,600 performances of 3,841 different shows in 322 venues. Established in 1947 as an alternative to the Edinburgh International Festival, it takes place in Edinburgh every August.
Eigg the Musical will be directed by Kelly McAllister and staged in Colorado using local talent. The Denver based team will travel to Scotland and perform alongside other theatre troupes from around the world. The show is scheduled to debut at Greenside @ Riddles Court; Willow Studio on the Royal Mile near the Edinburgh Castle on August 4th and runs through August 12th 2023.
"Undoubtedly one of the most charming venues at the Fringe" - The Guardian
Some famous faces have graced the halls at Riddles Court; including King James VI, who in 1598 attended a state banquet there and in 1751 it became the residence of David Hume. It should come as no surprise that the building has a rich Fringe history and will become the venue for the new musical's debut. Tickets are available on the Edinburgh festival fringe website.
