Connecticut's Chief Manufacturing Officer Paul Lavoie and Commissioner for the Department of Economic and Community Development Alexandra Daum reviewed Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation's progress in sustainable energy and workforce development.
DANBURY, Conn., May 24, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On May 15, Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation hosted Paul Lavoie, Connecticut's Chief Manufacturing Officer, and Alexandra Daum, the state's Commissioner for the Department of Economic and Community Development. The two dignitaries toured the facility to learn more about the company's innovative initiatives in green energy and alternative fuels, as well as their successful internship program.
They began their visit by reviewing Preferred's solar panel array, which offsets about 75 percent of the company's electricity. They also heard a presentation about the history of this family-owned business, which has been in operation in Connecticut for more than 100 years.
"I'm happy to be able to share what we do with these guests from the state," said David Bohn, President and CEO of Preferred Utilities Manufacturing. "This company represents more than a century of successful manufacturing operation, and I'm committed to keeping this business right here in Connecticut."
The two state officials were accompanied on their tour by Mr. Bohn and several other senior managers and engineers from Preferred. They visited the company's training facility, research and development operation, shop floor, and newly designed engineering department, where they learned about Preferred's capability to make short runs of built-to-order burners designed for higher performance and lower emissions.
"Commissioner Daum and I enjoyed the tour and conversation with the team at Preferred Utilities. It is great to see the commitment to sustainable energy and the depth and breadth of innovation happening at Preferred Utilities. This is a great example of the core of Connecticut manufacturing. Preferred Utilities is a leader in innovation, training and a commitment to workforce development. We are very proud they have called Connecticut home for over 100 years," said Paul Lavoie.
They also discussed Preferred's successful internship program for workforce development. Preferred hires six to ten interns each summer, who train in a range of disciplines including electrical and mechanical engineering, data engineering, and business administration. The program has been so successful in attracting interns that the company has purchased two nearby condos to house the participants while they complete their internships.
"The work we do with renewable fuels is important to the industry, and I'm proud of what we accomplish every day," continued Mr. Bohn. "I thank Commissioner Daum and Mr. Lavoie for demonstrating their commitment by spending the day with us, and I'm especially happy to learn about the reimbursement and grant opportunities they told us about. We appreciate everything they do to support manufacturing in Connecticut."
