MIAMI, June 23, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- New LGBTQ web series, "Buzz Kill," celebrated Pride month and Juneteenth with its world premiere screening at the 2023 American Black Film Festival over the weekend. Guests at the O Cinema South Beach viewing in Miami experienced an exclusive 15-minute pilot that kicks-off the ten-episode debut season, co-created by Terrance Williams and Jessie B. Evans. "Buzz Kill" is a romantic comedy series that follows the misadventures of Khalil Hurston, a chubby queer Black millennial, as his life is shaken up when romance, career, and family issues collide. During the world premiere screening, audiences watched the lead character try to make things work with his boyfriend, a task that becomes increasingly difficult after he's introduced to someone else at the annual cookout.
"Growing up a chubby and closeted Black kid, I always imagined what it would feel like to see people onscreen who loved and looked like me," says Terrance Williams, co-creator and star of "Buzz Kill." "While Black queer representation featured on television and throughout digital content has blossomed over the past decade, none of the leads have worn my pant size and if they do they are not positioned as desirable. Although the series targets the urban LGBTQ community, "Buzz Kill" is for anyone who can relate to the woes of dating in a modern society."
Now in its 27th year, the American Black Film Festival empowers Black artists and showcases a wide range of entertainment content made by and about people of African descent. The Academy Award-qualifying festival brings together Black culture enthusiasts, executives, and content creators from around the world for consecutive days of screenings, talk events, and networking.
