Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) and Florida Memorial University (FMU) have launched the "Lift Every Voice" Theological Educational Partnership, an initiative designed to inspire and equip young people to pursue careers in theology.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., July 3, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Two universities have joined forces to make pastoral training more affordable for students who feel called to serve Black congregations. Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) and Florida Memorial University (FMU) announced on Tuesday that they will award twenty-five scholarships of $1,000 each to incoming students in their shared Master of Divinity track with a concentration in Black Church Studies. Each award will be distributed for the fall 2025 semester under the banner of the Lift Every Voice Theological Education Partnership, a program launched with support from Lilly Endowment Inc.
"Lift Every Voice shows we are better together than apart," said Dr. Jonathan Grenz, dean of PBA's School of Ministry, during a campus celebration of the partnership. Dr. Debra A. Schwinn, president of PBA, praised the initiative for pairing rigorous academics with the lived experience of the Black church.
A Program Designed for Speed and Context
The pathway allows students with an interest in religious studies and philosophy to complete a bachelor's degree and an ATS-accredited M.Div. in just five years—a timeline that typically takes seven. The program can also be done 100% online. Dr. Jamila Jackson, director of theological education partnerships, and Antoinette Brazzle, associate director, shepherd each cohort through admissions, mentorship, and field education.
Scholarships First, Recruiting Next
While the scholarship fund headlines the announcement, university leaders stress that financial aid is only one piece of the puzzle. The partnership is also launching a summer outreach tour featuring campus visits, church presentations, and radio segments aimed at individuals looking to serve in Caribbean and urban communities.
Christian EDM artist Dale Richardson, P/K/A Skerrit Bwoy, formerly of the EDM pop group Major Lazer and—known for his high-energy "Jesus Party" performances—will lend promotional support during the tour, but he is quick to deflect attention. "My role is simple: help young people see that seminary is possible," he said, emphasizing that the real story is the doors the scholarships will open.
How to Apply
Prospective students can find eligibility requirements and the online application at www.LiftEveryVoiceFL.com. The scholarship panel will distribute awards on a rolling basis until all twenty-five grants are allocated.
