2XL Imaging Selects Celtec Expanded PVC in Vivid White for Clean Cuts and True Grays in Retail Display
2XL Imaging, Springfield, NJ, has chosen Celtec(R) from Vycom to print and die-cut free standing eyeglass displays for a new line of Skechers sunglasses. 2XL used Cettec Vivid White to ensure clean edges and that the gray of Skechers' logo was exactly as specified.
SCRANTON, Pa., July 31, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- To print and die-cut free standing eyeglass displays for a new line of Skechers sunglasses, 2XL Imaging of Springfield, New Jersey, chose to print on Celtec® Expanded PVC in Vivid White to make sure the cut-outs had clean edges and the gray of Skechers' logo was exactly as specified.
"The higher the customer's expectations and needs, the better-quality substrate we'll use to achieve those goals," says Kevin Scharfstein, Vice President/Director of Manufacturing for 2XL Imaging, which is among the top large format printers in their region. "After years of trial and error, my preference for these types of jobs is Celtec® Expanded PVC, which offers consistent overall density and the option of a clean, Vivid White color that makes it easier to achieve the exact graphics the job specified."
Celtec features a highly printable surface for sharp, bold display graphics. The smaller cell structure of Celtec's optimal density provides for edge finishing and superior screw and staple retention, while great fastening characteristics and fire properties make it easy to work with.
The Skechers display features the company's gray and blue logo colors. Sharfstein notes the need to match an exact gray helped guide their decision to use Celtec. "Grays are among the hardest colors to work within the industry because they are heavily impacted by the substrate. The color or shade of the background can easily shift it to another color, from blues to magentas," he says. "For this project, I decided to go with Celtec's Vivid White option, figuring if I could change the brightness of the sheet itself, maybe it would make everything look sharper – and it worked."
Having clean edges on the many cut-outs for the nose pieces and arms of the glasses was another key consideration in substrate choice. 2XL's client, who would ultimately build the displays for Skechers, did not have the time to go through and clean every rough edge. The material had to be delivered ready-to-assemble.
"The density of the Celtec material makes it easier to produce a cleaner edge when we die-cut or use a router," says Scharfstein. "These clean edges will also hold up better under the wear and tear of people taking glasses in and out of the display piece to try them on."
2XL has printed additional Skechers displays for the client without having to adjust for color. "We never have to adjust our color blend when we reorder Celtec. Their quality-control means we can expect Vivid White to be the same every time, which saves us time and money." Learn more at http://www.vycomplastics.com.
