43 Educators Receive California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence
San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) August 17, 2016 -- The NEA Foundation recently announced the 2017 California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence recipients.
The 43 awardees represent the best of their profession, with 16 who are Teacher of the Year in their respective states. Also, 12 have received their National Board Certifications, 31 have earned Master’s degrees, and three have doctorates. The majority, 20, are elementary school educators, eight are in middle schools are 15 are in high schools.
The California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence are unique: in addition to being recognized for excellence in instructional and professional practice, awardees are nominated by their peers – their National Education Association state affiliate – for their dedication to the profession, community engagement, professional development, attention to diversity, and advocacy for fellow educators.
Because the NEA Foundation values both professional development and diversity, awardees are invited to participate in its Global Learning Fellowship. Fellows learn how to prepare their students for a connected and multicultural world in this comprehensive, year-long professional development program, which includes an international field study next June.

Each California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence awardee’s school will receive a $650 award. Award presentations will be made in September and October. The educators will also be honored at the NEA Foundations Salute to Excellence in Education Gala February 10, 2017 in Washington, D.C.
The NEA Foundation and the National Education Association jointly present the awards.
