4th Annual Christmas in July Toy Drive Supported by El Bekal and Ladies of the Oriental Shrine of North America
(PRWEB) July 27, 2018 -- What:
For four consecutive years, Shriners from the El Bekal center and Ladies from the organization Ladies of the Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA) have sponsored a toy drive to benefit the children at Shriners for Children Medical center previously known as Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Los Angeles. The two organizations partner up to plan and prepare for this grand event each year. Over 40 volunteers participate and help by providing donors and families’ information regarding the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Guests are treated to a delicious BBQ provided and sponsored by Ralphs, live music from the Riverside Orchestra, and Santa’s elves. Of course Santa himself will also be present and camera ready for photos. The El Bekal Potentate will also be available for interviews. It is a family affair and a fun way to kick off the summer! This event is hosted not just as a toy drive, but also to increase awareness within the communities about the great pediatric specialized care Shriners for Children Medical Center can provide and is providing to families in Southern California.
Our local Shriners, volunteers and donors are at the center of the Shriners Hospitals for Children mission. Through their donations they allow us to care for children who are in need of specialized, state-of-the-art, compassionate medical care. These toy donations serve more than one purpose. They are not just gifts, but also serve as distraction tools during procedures, make children feel extra special or even reduce the feeling of anxiety when they walk into a hospital or medical center. These donations make our patients feel at home.
We have recently opened our newest facility in Pasadena, CA; Shriners for Children Medical Center. Our new facility features 20 outpatient clinic examination rooms, 2 state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical suites, on-site radiology, EOS orthopaedic imaging, rehabilitation services and an orthotics and prosthetics lab. This 70,000 square foot facility features fun interactive walls, lots of natural light, outdoor gathering areas along with a large bright and colorful lobby.

Why:
The Ladies’ Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA) was founded over 110 years ago. The aim and goals of the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine, as set forth at the organizational meeting in 1903, are to promote sociability, good fellowship and the betterment of all Ladies connected with the organization. When the Shriners founded the Shrine Hospitals for Children and the first hospital was built in 1922, the Ladies committed to supporting the Shrine’s official philanthropy. The Shrine’s 22 hospitals offer treatment in orthopedics, burn care, cleft lip & palate and spinal cord injury. These treatments are provided regardless of the ability to pay http://ladiesorientalshrine.org/
Shriners International is a spin-off from Freemasonry, the oldest, largest and most widely known fraternity in the world. Freemasonry dates back hundreds of years to when stonemasons and other craftsmen gathered after work in shelter houses, or lodges. Over time, the members organized into Masonic guilds and the tools of their trade – the square and compass – became the symbol of their brotherhood. Over time, Masonry evolved into an organization that began to accept members who were not craftsmen. Today, Masonry is built upon a foundation of improving character and strengthening communities, though the square and compass are still the symbols of the fraternal brotherhood. When Shriners International was first founded in 1872, the organization built on the principles that guided Freemasonry, while adding an element of fun and ultimately, philanthropy, that set Shriners International apart. https://www.shrinersinternational.org/Shriners/MasonShriners/Masons
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and relies on the generosity of donors. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
