The participation of Maestro Dmitry Sitkovetsky as the violin soloist in Beethoven's Triple Concerto with cellist Misha Quint and pianist Saleem Ashkar, and conducting the InterHarmony Festival Orchestra will be a memorable event of the intensive festival summer. His enviable career as a violin soloist is documented in several dozen recordings of all major violin concertos.
Sitkovetsky is the Music Director of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra in North Carolina and has performed and conducted with the greatest orchestras of the world. He recently collaborated with the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, Moscow Philharmonic, Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, and China Philharmonic. Having such a versatile artist at IIMF, who in addition to performing and conducting, will be giving a violin master class, brings a unique opportunity for the participants to achieve their musical and technical goals. The grand finale of the Italian portion of InterHarmony will be conducted under baton of Dmitri Jurowski. It will be a highlight of the festival and create an atmosphere of playing in a real professional orchestra for the participants. Maestro Jurowski is the Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater and chief conductor of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra "Russian Philharmonic" and has conducted countless leading orchestras and opera houses in all parts of the world, appearing with the Komische Oper and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Munich Radio Orchestra, New Israeli Opera, the Liege Opera of Belgium, Shanghai Philharmonic, and Dresden Philharmonic among many others. After his dazzling success at InterHarmony in Italy last year, Maestro Christian Vasquez will join InterHarmony in Germany, conducting the grand finale of the festival.
Principal Conductor of Norway's Stavanger Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, the rising star Maestro Christian Vásquez represents a new generation of conductors, becoming one of the most in demand in recent years. Graduate of the famous Sistema in his native Venezuela, he is busy with engagements leading world orchestras like: Vienna Radio Symphony, Camerata Salzburg, State Symphony of Russia, Tokyo Philharmonic, Berlin Konzerthausorchester, Prague Radio Symphony, and Singapore Symphony. In North America, he has conducted the National Arts Centre Orchestra (Ottawa) and Los Angeles Philharmonic. InterHarmony is pleased that Saleem Ashkar will joining the musical scene of the Outstanding Guest Artist Series. Based in Berlin, the Israeli-Palestinian pianist has become one of the most in-demand soloists of our time. Saleem Ashkar performs regularly with such conductors as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Chailly, Christoph Eschenbach, Riccardo Muti and Daniel Barenboim, and works with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Filarmonica della Scala, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Leipziger Gewandhaus, the NDR Hamburg, the DSO and the Konzerthausorchester in Berlin. Students in the InterHarmony Festival Orchestra will have a rare chance to perform with Ashkar in the Beethoven Triple Concerto along with cellist Misha Quint and violinist and conductor Dmitry Sitkovetsky. Pianist Alfred Brendel returns for the 5th Anniversary of the Outstanding Master Class Series with his signature lecture "My Musical Life". This very special talk gives the listeners true insight of a life in music. Hear Alfred Brendel, one of the world's great pianists, renowned for his interpretations of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and Liszt in particular until his retirement from public performance in 2008, reflect on the role of music in his life and career.
Brendel has been recognized with honorary doctorates from Cambridge, Oxford and Yale, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Awards of Edison, MIDEM Classical Awards, the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis and Gramophone Magazine, the recording industry's highest accolade. Sulzbach-Rosenberg is just less than an hour's drive to the Bayreuther Festpiele, the famous Opera House dedicated to performances of Wagner. This distance will become much shorter as mezzo-soprano Christa Mayer, the best of the Bayreuth, joins InterHarmony's Outstanding Guest Artist Series. Ms. Mayer will give an open voice master class at the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival, where students in the vocal program will be invited to perform. Students will be given a chance to hear Christa Mayer perform in concert with the InterHarmony Festival Orchestra with arias by Handel, Gluck, and Saint-Saëns.
Guest performances in recent years have brought Christa Mayer to sing main roles in opera houses in Berlin, Munich, Venice, Florence, Bilbao, Barcelona, Sevilla und Tokyo. Recent engagements in addition to Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde and Mary in Der Fliegende Holländer at the Bayreuth, include roles in Nabucco, Der Rosenkavalier, Tannhäuser, Die Zauberflöte, Salome, and Rigoletto in Semperoper Dresden, and Mahler's Sinfonia No.2 for contralto at the Opera di Firenze in Italy. Join InterHarmony International Music Festival this summer in Acqui Terme for a violin master class with Boris Kuschnir, one of the world's foremost violin pedagogues. A student of David Oistrakh's at the Moscow Conservatory, Kuschnir has been described as a modern-day Leopold Auer. His students include Nikolai Znaider, Julian Rachlin, and Lidia Baich, along with more than 40 other laureates of national and international competitions.
Kuschnir has given master classes and served as a jury member at competitions across the globe, including the Tchaikovsky in Moscow, the Queen Elisabeth in Brussels, the Nicolò Paganini in Genoa, the Jacques Thibaud in Paris, the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, the Seoul International Music Competition and Eurovision. His own career as a soloist and chamber musician (as co-founder of the Moscow and now the Kopelman Quartet) has been equally illustrious. He performs on the "La Rouse-Boughton" Stradivarius (1703). Featured in the dramatic masterpiece, Shostakovich's 7 Romances on the Poems of Alexander Blok, soprano Lubov Stuchevskaya will open the second session of InterHarmony in Italy and give a voice master class. Lubov Stuchevksaya has sung major arias and performed in many opera productions under the batons of Charles Dutoit, Bruno Bartoletti, Georg Solti, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Soli Aronowski, Dmitri Jurowski and David Wilcocks. Being a rare soloist, embracing every possible genre including lieder, major arias, oratorios, and all ranges of musical styles will create a quintessential experience to our vocal students. The participation of the outstanding violin virtuoso Ilya Kaler described by the Gramophone as a, "magician, bewitching our ears," for his, "hauntingly beautiful sound, flawless command of the instrument and mesmerizing phrasing," will be a highlight of InterHarmony as part of the Sulzbach-Rosenberg International Music Festival in Germany. Ilya Kaler is the only violinist to receive gold prizes at the Tchaikovsky, Sibelius and Paganini competition. He performed with leading orchestras and conductors on all the major world stages. Ilya Kaler will perform in the Dvorak: Piano Quintet No.2 and give a violin master class, which will be a dream come true for violinists trying to find their place on the stage of life.
InterHarmony is pleased to announce that violinist Olga Dubossarkaya Kaler will join the Outstanding Guest Artist Series at InterHarmony. Praised by critics for her, "deep, soulful sound," and "powerful, enchanting renditions," Olga Dubossarskaya Kaler has toured three continents as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher, having combined performing and teaching careers with equal success. She is a member of the violin faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, following her 15-year tenure as a violin professor at the DePaul University School of Music in Chicago. It's will be a real opportunity for the violin students not just to hear her play Ysaÿe's Poéme élégiaque and Dvorak: Piano Quintet No.2, but also study with her during the festival.
