RICHMOND, Va., Mar. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Jim Odom, owner of Archadeck of Austin, and his team received the national Archadeck Outdoor Living's Design Excellence Award for an outdoor patio and roof structure. This national contest recognizes design excellence among its franchise locations across the United States and Canada.
Located in the heart of Austin, Texas, the homeowners constantly battled hot summers with a lack of shade in their backyard, and were therefore limited to when they could use their outdoor space. Jim Schallon, Lead Designer of Archadeck of Austin, consulted with the homeowners to understand their problem and provide the best solution.
Needing to stay within the footprint of the rear elevation, Jim recommended a hip roof design with a cathedral ceiling to make the area more open and inviting, which was important for the homeowners. The use of a furniture-grade quality, tongue and groove ceiling using cedar materials added a beautiful look to the .
In order to maximize the use of the space, lighting and a ceiling fan were added to help with the hot summer months, and to allow the homeowners to use the space long into the evening. Archadeck also created a bench to help define the space and separate the yard from the covered area.
