Carol Hassell Wins Triathlon World Title in London, Represents Bill Bone Racing Team
Hyde Park, LONDON (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Team USA certainly made its mark at the ITU Sprint Age Group World Championships in Hyde Park last week. While the conditions were rainy throughout the race, Team USA was able to shine with seven members winning world titles. One member in particular, Carol Hassell, took home back-to-back gold medals in the Olympic distance and sprint for the 60-64 age group.
Just before traveling to London to represent Team USA, Hassell won the Lake Worth Triathlon, a true foreshadowing of what was to come. Hassell ended up taking home the gold medal for the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, and 5-kilometer run, making her the only Florida resident to medal. Representing Florida, Team USA, and the Bill Bone Racing Team, Hassell’s diligent training prior to the race proved to be successful. Before heading to London, Hassell stated, “I am incredibly excited to compete this year, as the triathlon takes place in Hyde Park, which is the same course used in Olympics last year”.
Hassell’s dedication to training for the triathlon showed during the race as she powered through with a winning time of 2:22:42 to take home the gold medal in the 60-64 age group. Following the big win, Hassell was all smiles as she celebrated her accomplishment, "I trained really hard and I had a great coach who gave me what I needed to do to get here, and it worked. To be in Hyde Park and go 'I got to do the Olympic course,' it's just so cool. It was a big thing for why I came here and it was a great course."
Sadly, these high caliber races are often marred by bike accidents on the course. In this particular race, however, Hassell was able to create a 5 minute distance between herself and the next runner up in the race. She is a great runner and a fine swimmer, but as an excellent cyclist she was able to pull ahead of the competition and reach the finish line first.
Hassell represented Team USA abroad, however, while at home in South Florida she proudly represents the Bill Bone Racing Team. The Bill Bone Racing Team is a local club with members who are competitive cyclists and triathletes, as well as recreational cyclists just out to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery in South Florida.
