Just in time for Easter, a four-pound white granite egg has been hidden in Portland, Oregon. Orchestrated by author Francis Halpin, the egg hunt and its accompanying prize of $500 celebrates the release of the second installment in his Seventh Guardian series.

The prize: $500, a party for up to 30 friends at Woven Wineworks in Portland's Pearl District, and the hidden white-granite egg as a trophy (a total cash value of USD $1,350). Following on the heels of Halpin's debut novel, Destiny Expires, Inflection Points is a suspenseful, often humorous, thriller based in Portland. Bridging fantasy and real life, the story centers on 25-year-old Robert Lowden, a borderline dysfunctional Portlander working at Best Buy who conducts bizarre experiments, many at the expense of his customers and his few friends. What he finds threatens to destroy humanity and himself. Will he be able to solve the mystery in time?
Like Robert, fans of The Seventh Guardian series must put their detective skills to work. All of the information needed to find the egg is woven into the first two books of The Seventh Guardian series, Destiny Expires and Inflection Points. The winner will likely have a strong understanding of the mysterious coordinate system in the novels, as well as the characters and story.
"Most of the clues are in Destiny Expires," says Halpin, "so if you do the legwork, you should know where to find the egg quickly upon receiving Inflection Points.
