Local Youth-led Nonprofit Recognized by Old Navy Earth Day Initiative
The Pin for Change, an Asheville-based nonprofit, was started by two young brothers who wanted to change the world. Old Navy believes they can do just that - and wants to help.
ASHEVILLE, N.C., April 22, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- At just four and six, Asheville students Justin and Kevin watched a film that opened their eyes to the tremendous potential that children have to truly change the world. From that day on, they were determined to make the world a better place - and to help lift up others who are doing the same.
Over the past five years, they have led their peers in countless river clean-up projects and other initiatives to improve environmental sustainability. In honor of the 51st Earth Day, Old Navy committed to supporting 51 innovative, eco-conscious activists who are a part of the next generation of change-makers. The Pin for Change was chosen as one of the first projects identified as part of this campaign, and their donation is already making a significant impact by covering costs to help expand service projects and outreach.
The boys have big dreams, and their mom, Christy Lemyre, is working hard to help them launch the next phase of empowering others to make a difference. "Our kids want to change the world - and we want to help them do just that. We are honored that Old Navy would see the passion in my sons and decide that they want to help make this dream of improving the environment for the next generation become a reality. One of our biggest values is that we want everyone to be included in developing these ideas and serving if they would like to be involved. Old Navy's donation is helping to make that inclusion and expansion to other nearby communities possible."
The organization is currently working to establish a Youth Advisory Council by empowering passionate youth in creating service-learning projects that will both make the world a better place today as well as lead to a more environmentally sustainable future.
